When working in the newest Lightroom Classic with masks of multiple people, when I sync the masks across images, the masks are not finding the individual people and are all clumping onto one person. In an image with even just 2 people in the same spots, I go to masks, let it find the people, click on each person, click to add faces for each, make sure it would be for separate masks. Then I edit each face mask. When I sync from one image to another, those masks don't find both people. They layer onto one person. What the heck is going on. I did a screen recording of this process. LR Masking not syncing
PLEASE HELP!!!

I fear that you will need to create Facial Skin mask for each person, photo by photo...or at least where the sync fails.
Don't bother to create a preset with 4 or multiple Facial Skin selections.
Preset created with more than one person are all bugged.

Thank you for the files. The DNG with edits when synced to the three JPG files you supplied is indeed failing. I am going to consult with the team on this issue to see if it is LrC or the underlying raw engine. Please leave the files in place for download.
Thank you!

Agree, I've tried downgrading to older versions, updating driver, nothing seems to help and has seriously affected my workflow! I just wish I new how to fix it.

Hello. I am having the exact same issue as The Golfwidow above. I am editing a bridal shoot. creating masks for Person 1 and Person 2--when i sync images it double stacks the edits making the ONE person extra soft skin, or extra white teeth (when I delete the second mask meant for the other person, the issue is resolved for Person one)--and no edits for person 2. (though when i go through each mask on the synced image--the person 2 is attached to the person 1). Are there any works around these issues. I am working with LrC. Thanks for any help here.

Please update us. Several people, including me, have run into this issue. It drove me to Luminar AI, which would really prefer not to have in my workflow.

Based on the comments, and also my personal experiences, this issue is costing users a lot of their time. I have been battling this and keeping track of the time lost in the last 12 months which is now at 1,073hrs. I would encourage others to tack their lost time and update this post with it so Adobe can quantify and prioritize it. It would seem that Adobe has not put much thought into how the copy mask function can / will be used and have focused on hobist users processing images individually. The tool is not suitable for editing multiple images efficiently. I'm researching other products and processes now and will post my results once evidenced.

Has there been any progress on this? It's been a year and a half. I don't understand why it's being evaluated for future "enhancements" when it is clearly a bug. It severely degrades workflow.

Rikk thank you. I have tried this on other files and they all fail over 60% of the time. Another user also tried and is having the same issues. You can read through the attempts they made on my original post. So at least it isn't just me. Thanks for all your help! Shawn

For it's worth, I tried this and it failed on the first attempt.
I chose two images with the same two people in them. I created face masks for each person in the first image, then did a Sync to the second image. In the second image, the first person on the left got both face masks, just as @The Golfwidow reported.
I also tried Copy/Paste and Auto Sync, both resultng in the same outcome.
However, creating a Preset for the two face masks from the first image, then applying it to the second image resulted in the two masks masking both faces.

I just discovered this thread while looking for a solution to the same issue. It is happening to me in LR Classic -- when I create a people mask for each person on one photo, and then try to sync the masks across several images, LR will pick one person (seemingly arbitrarily) and apply all three masks to that person, and ignore the others. I am on a PC, if that matters.
OS: Windows 11

@craigc68070674 I'm glad you are also experiencing this and it isn't just me. Obviously they have an issue and a bug and I'm hoping that they fix it.

If you have multiple images with the same individuals in different posses and have specific edit settings that consistantly apply to to all these photos it would be good if a preset could only apply to the currently selected mask.
This would spead up my workflow considerably.
If you try using the copy edit settings, including the masks, and the individuals have moved or changed position, the mask does not require the individuals reliably.
Alternatively, having a person edit profile, which can then be used for all matching faces to that profile in the image series, would also save a lot of time.

I'm not sure I understand your request. Lightroom Classic already has local adjustment presets. These are applied to the selected mask only. Look under 'Effect' in the mask panel.

Thank you for replying.
The mask edit is only for you current image. If you copy the settings from one image to another you can copy the masks, but if you have more than one individual, and your subjects are moving, the masks just apply to the image without aquiring the relevant individuals. Surprisingly, if you only have one individual from image to image, Lightroom will detect that indiviual and apply the copied settings (with new/ammended masks) correctly.
This maybe a bug, because when I go to the next image and create the indivduals subject masks (hair, clothes, face etc) it generally correctly identifies them. So, it's not a question of Lightroom being able to do this, but rather why it doesn't do a better job of pre-identification before applying the copied settings. It does for images with a single individual though.
What would speed up my editing process would be an individual mask set which I could apply after letting Lightroom do the mask selection for the individuals in that image. As it now stands, I do have to edit each mask on each image using the settings individually.
I have also tried creating a preset just for I aspect eg. clothes and then selecting my current mask and trying to apply this just to that mask but it doesn't work. It seeks to apply the preset settings to the whole image.
Anyway, I would welcome your thoughts, and thank you for your time.

I believe what you are describing is a known bug, under investigation at this time. AI masks should obviously be recalculated when they are copied/pasted.

I'm having the same problem the last 2 weeks or so. All the masks are being put on the 1st person. I've tried different ways of selecting people thinking it might help but it's not.

Has this been resolved yet? Becasue the same issue has been happening with me and it is SO frustrating. 50/50, no pattern. It just layers all the AI face masks on top of one person's face. Everything else seems to work fine.

I am came here with same exact problem. I've had it for at least a year and sort of gave up, accepting it as a bug. I'm editing a project right now where this would save me hours of time, so I was hoping it had been addressed. But it hasn't. The pinned post says it's being evaluated, but that was in 7 months ago. Can someone from Adobe please provide an update?
