Noise Reduction with AI does not accept my photo Nikon RAW

Since I made the update of LR , Noise Reduction with AI does not accept my photo Nikon RAW.

I use it for long time ans now it is not working because does not accept or recognize my picture format. It is NEF and no problem except from tomorow update 8.2.

Do you have the same problem ?

Do you get an error dialog when you try to denoise the files? If so, could you let me know what it says? Also, what mode are you shooting your photos in? If you're using Lossless Compressed mode, try switching to High Efficiency and see if that works. Let me know how it goes! Thanks so much! 😊

It generates preview which is the exact same as the original file with no enhancments, and it gives me an estimated time of 5 minutes. I've always used NEF RAW files, and they have always denoised between 18-30 seconds. Now the same files are "Unsupported."

@Aleke @I shot in NEF (classical) , I reinstall Lightroom. And I posted the message (the picture below..) "la photo, sélectionnée n'est pas prise en charge par cette fonction "

Hi @pascal_cuttoli1132!

Have you had a chance to try Sameer's suggestion yet? When you're shooting your photos, make sure you're using an uncompressed format. Compressed formats might not work well with the Noise Reduction Tool.

I am unable to use Lightroom AI denoise on any of my Nikon raw NEF files. I was able to use AI denoise on these files recently but for some reason Lightroom AI denoise is no longer working. If I use the AI denoise feature in Camera Raw it works without any issues which leads me to believe there is a problem with Lightroom. 

After running into this issue with all of my NEF pictures, I uninstalled Lightroom completely and reinstalled it. I am receiving the same error message after install.

Yes, denoise works as expected in Camera Raw with the exact same files. 

Denoise may not work with Compressed RAW images. Try working with Lossless files & check how it goes. 

I shoot with a Nikon D500 and my settings are listed below:

Image quality: NEF (RAW) + JPEG fine

Image size: large

NEF (RAW) compression: lossless compressed

NEF (RAW) bit depth: 14-bit

These settings are the settings I've used since I purchased the camera. I have edited 100's of pictures in Lightroom using denoise in the past and it's worked perectly fine. 

If the issue exists, please share a few RAW files directly on my profile. 

Attached is the file I created this post for (file DSC9794.NEF).

I have also included NEF (RAW) file DSC8331.NEF and the enhanced verion of this file using Lightroom denoise. I used Lightroom denoise on file DSC8331.NEF in January this year and it created the attached enhanced version without any issue. If I try to run denoise on DSC8331.NEF now, I'm receiving the same errror message. This confirms my suspicion that there is an issue with Ligthroom itself. Why would it work Lightroom denoise work on a file 11 months ago but not work on the same file now?

I appreciate any help you can offer. It's frustrating to not have this featuer work as it's a useful feature.

Thanks for sharing the details and the information. I am able to use AI Denoise on DSC9794.NEF in both Local and Lightroom Cloud modes.

If these images are synced to the cloud, try creating an album and right-clicking on the Album name to select > Make Album available offline & check how it goes. 

If this does not help, please go to Lightroom > Edit > Preferences > Account > press and hold the ALT/OPT key, select Diagnostic Log, and reinstall Lightroom to check and verify how it goes. 

Even if it works post-reinstall, generate the Diagnostic logs again and share both (before and after) diagnostic logs, along with a few RAW+JPEG files (only if the issue exists), with me via direct message.

@Sameer K  Denoise just randomly started working for me again for all my files. I'm not sure why it wasn't working but I'm happy to have it back.

It does take 5-6 minutes to run per image (even with 8GB GPU) but that's about the speed it was running before. Did the images process more quickly when you did them?

Please can you help me, my denoise has also just stopped working. Nothing on my camera settings or graphics card has changed.

I tried running denoise on original files already on my computer which had previously been able to use denoise successfully, these also no longer work.

As an extra note photoshop is able to denoise the same files. This seems to only be a problem with Lightroom

Ive restared the computer, updated to the latest MAC version, uninstalled and reinstalled, cleared all of the lightroom storage and memory, and still nothing. Please help. I have 150 photos that need to be edited by tomorrow. Thanks

yesterday i started to have same issue, at the end of the time of the denoise process the program says that the file es not supported. And it is the same raw files, even the same session of shots, many of them sequences of the same frame!!! I sent a question, and now i can't even find my question on this discussion sector.

Hi everyone,

I’m having an issue with Lightroom (Cloud-based, not Classic) where the Denoise AI option is no longer available, even though I’ve used it successfully in the past on the same camera and file types.

• I’m using a Nikon D3500 shooting RAW (.NEF) files

• ISO is typically 12800, so there’s definitely visible noise

• I’m on Lightroom version 8.2 (latest) on macOS 15.3.2

• Previously, I was able to use Enhance → Denoise without issues

• But for the past couple of months, Denoise has been grayed out or missing entirely, even on files that I successfully applied it to before

• I’ve tested both newly imported files and older ones that already have -Enhanced-NR.dng versions

I’ve verified that:

• I’m using original .NEF files (not JPEG or already enhanced DNGs)

• Files are fully synced and backed up

• I have access to other Enhance features like Super Resolution

• I’ve tried reimporting the files from SD card directly

Is this a known bug or account-related issue? Is Adobe no longer supporting Denoise on Lightroom Cloud for some users?

I’d prefer not to switch to Classic full-time because I like the modern interface of Cloud, but I’ve had to use Classic just to run Denoise.

Would appreciate any help or official clarification!

Denoise AI shows preview of image and states processing time as 5 minutes but post that i get message that "file type is not supported". seriously frustated. Mac os is 15.4.1 and lightroom is 8.2. support needed asap. Thanks!
