lightroom files not showing raw

hey everyone my raw files seem to be converting automatically to jpeg when put into lightroom, cant find the raw copies?

    In that case you have to describe exactly what you do from the moment you copy the photos to the computer till the moment they are in Lightroom. I get the feeling that you use Apple Photos in the process, and that may explain it. Lightroom can't convert raw files into jpegs on import, even if you wanted to!


    thank you i have realised that they will only keep as raw if I put them on through imagecapture not macbook photos, how strange didnt see this being an issue! thanks everyone for the help!

    No, raw files do not convert automatically to jpeg in Lightroom. The most likely explanation is that you have been shooting jpeg without realising it. And you wouldn't be the first one. Some Canon cameras switch to jpeg when you use a 'green program' setting. Another thing that sometimes happens is that people bring their camera to some service centre (to get the sensor cleaned, for example) and that centre changes the camera settings without the photographer realising it.

    its confusing though because on the computer they literally say they're a raw file, but then it lightroom label as jpeg?! so confused!!

    That isn't a normal Lightroom procedure. What version of Lightroom? What camera model? How are you trying to import the images?

    its a canon 5dmark iii, lightroom cc so ive imported them on to mac photos then gone to add them into lightroom, all showing as jpegs ??

      Have you considered importing them directly using the Lightroom import dialogue. That works.
