The local files option does not find files

I have a large drive with many pics at different levels in the directories.  Local files option in lightroom appears to only search to a certain depth then gives up and returns data that is useless.  This happens even when I search for the file by the complete name.  Seems like a simple mistake with huge implications for those of us who actually want to use the local files option! 

I've made copies of the file I want to work on from the root drive to the actual location and tried to open them. I cannot open them from any level of the directory.  Maybe there is something wrong with the file name:  IMG01668-IMG01698_enblended wide 3.jpg 

Actually  this happens quite freqently enough so that lightroom is useless to me when it does and I'm about to return the product suite to adobe.
