P: Ability to display file names in grid display?

Participant ,
Nov 02, 2018 Nov 02, 2018

How do I display file names in grid display for the cloud based Lightroom CC on my desktop?   I see how to do this on the mobile version, but I'm not having any luck on the desktop one.

Thanks

Steve

Greetings all,

Updates for Adobe Photography products have been released.  The May updates have implemented this feature request.

If you do not see the update in your Creative Cloud Application, you can refresh it by hitting [Ctrl/Cmd]+[Alt/Opt]+[ R ].

Note: It may take up to 24 hours for your update to be available in your Creative Cloud app.

Thank you for being so patient.

There currently isn't a way to overlay the grid with information as in the mobile clients.  In the Lightroom CC desktop application, leaving the Info panel open (lower right) as you move through the grid is currently the only way to see that information.

That would be then on a file by file basis, right?

Can we get this feature added? It would be nice to have.

In the square grid, permit adding file names and other information as in LR Classic.

I would have thought this was a prerequisite for any cataolguing app! How do I vote to get this feature added?

The Vote button is top right. Filenames don't really mean a lot in cloud computing, so it hasn't been considered a priority, but lots of votes could potentially change that.

I've just signed, imported several hundred photos, then wanted to locate a photo by name to see if I'd already uploaded it from another folder.  The first thing I looked for was the file name within the grid view, very strange omission.  It would also be good to see the capture dates in the grid view, and be able to group the grid by day etc.

These instructions are for Lightroom Classic. This thread is for Lightroom Desktop - a different product.

So if I have a jpg and a nef of the same photo, there is no way to see the filename to make a distinction? This makes no sense and is a big omission.

@Rikk

Can you confirm whether or not it is now possible to view filenames on the thumbnails in gridview?

Yes. I can confirm the status has not changed since my official post.  If that were to happen the thread would be badged "Implemented" at the top.

Are you kidding me guys that you cant fix this. Such a simple thing.

For clients to be able to choose what files they choose.

Two years. Holy cow.

Just loaded up this version of Lightroom to start using it.

That was ten minutes ago. That'll be it for me.

PLEASE add this feature. It would be so helpful to have selects from a gallery easily identified. No brainer addition.

Ridiculous that this is not a feature in the new version. I've been using Lightroom 5 for years and decided to try the new one. It looks pretty sleek but in this case it's a bit too streamlined. There really should be some place where you can quickly glance the file name and extensions. You would imagine that filenames are some of the more critical information that should be easily viewable when going through numerous photos?

I absolutely needed this today. How ridiculous it is to not have have this as an option.

This would be such a simple change, especially since it is already available on mobile...

For all those advocating to display the filename. Why?

What do you do with it?

Nothing, because we can't see it

How ridiculous is this! I shoot in both raw and jpg. I imported over 100 photos from a folder - I tried importing just the raw images, but Lightroom imported everything. As this latest edition of Light does not allow you to see the file name (Lightroom Classic does), I cannot tell which image is the raw file and which is the jpg. Adobe, you really need to fix this or folks will be dumping this program.
