There is still no good solution for geotagging available from any vendor of either cameras or photography software. This is quite frustrating in this day and age.
The cirteria for something I would consider a "good solution":
- Not tied to a specific camera brand
- No additional manual steps when importing photos
- Does not require a PC/Mac
- Does not require a smartphone (for getting postion data, because of limited battery life)
So how could that work:
Many hikers already track thier position using GPS watches like Garmin (or others) and those tracks usually get synced to some cloud service (like Garmin Connect, Komoot, Stava,...) so the idea would be to connect Lightroom, wich is also a cloud service, to those services to automatically add position data to photos based on timestamps.
If that is too much to ask, an alternative could be for Lightroom to provide an API to add location data so that external parties can implement such a service.
