P: Please stack RAW+JPEG files

Explorer ,
Dec 19, 2017 Dec 19, 2017

Contrary to Lightroom Classic, Lightroom CC doesn't automatically stack the two photos of a RAW+JPEG pair together. This creates quite a bit of clutter. Could you please implement this feature? Thank you.

This is basic functionality, a lot of photographers use this for quick jpg thumb sends before picking and editing raw.

You can do it by just typin "jpeg" or "orf" or whatever file extension you have in the filter box. Works quite ok.

Same here. Catalog migration ended up with raw only but sd card import results in duplicates both jpeg and raw.

I'm eager to switch from Lightroom Classic to Lightroom CC entirely (and in the process, pay Adobe a lot of money for perpetual cloud storage). This is the only issue blocking me.

No stacking, and no option to import only raw, or ignore jpegs, this really should be fundamental

Lightroom Classic isnt allowed by Adobe to sync RAW, so we have to use Lightroom CC to import if we want that. Yet it doesnt even have basic options for importing. I cant believe it still hasnt been added.

Forcing them to be treated separate images is horrendously dumb, and yet one more thing making the workflow more annoying.

Please support stacking in general as a superset of functionality that can be used to implement this request. My main use case is stacking bracketed shots, but the same functionality could be used to stack RAW+JPG.

That's a great suggestion, cygl7. It should be simple to implement a feature that auto-stacks shots created at exactly the same date and time.

I've just migrated from Lightroom Classic to Lightroom CC and was really disappointed to discover
this feature-gap.

This should simply be a basic functionality for a normal workflow. Importing raws and jpegs should be automatically stacked, like Lightroom Classic has been doing. Please prioritize this requirement and please ensure this stacking is also applied to web shared libraries so viewers don't see duplicate photos but only the selected photo at the top of the stack....this is also a problem; currently stacked photos are all displayed in the web shared album.

This feature is such a basic need that I question keeping the CC subscription!

In general, LR CC needs to improve the photo importing options in line with LR Classic!

Just putting my vote in here as well. In process odf migrating from Apple Photos, and just went through hell of trying to get Lightroom Classic to work just because I wanted to auto-stack, and after all of that it doesn't even work for ecosystem. If Apple Photos can do this, why not Lightroom?!

As an aside, Lightroom Classic is a bit of a dog performance wise, was worth loading it up to see that it wasn't what I wanted!

It's been years, and it still seems this isn't on the radar? Really bummed - one of the biggest reasons I used LR classic over Capture One.

agree - really wtf product team? Do you not use raw+jpg ?? its a mess to have them side by side. And its been years on the ask list with plenty of upvotes

@gioel_molinari it's not even the side by side - I'd filter them if that was the issue.  The broader issue is if I am rating an image, flagging it, deleting it, etc - there's always duplicates.

Earth to product team ... please implement this feature asap! Organising photos is at least ~25% of any photo professionals time. Not being able to stack RAW+Jpeg makes the process a much more confusing and time consuming process.

I'm trying to migrate from classic to ecosystem, this missing feature makes me crazy. Now, I give up and use classic back.

It has been almost three years and it does not seem like Adobe took care of this (potentially trivial) issue. Are there solutions to that outside of Adobe that can help organizing Lightroom CC catalog? Was it a mistake going with Adobe CC and should I have just stayed with classic and local storage?

wtf it is 2022 and this issue is still there?? oh my gosh I thougt Lightroom CC would be way better than the free Nikon Capture NX-D which supports the stacking but I am shocked that this feature is still not implemented... Sadly I did not knew it before I subscribed to 1 year of Lightroom CC 😞

Adobe!!! Please! Is this feature really so hard to implement! You are making the workflow have extra steps vs Classic, I't annoying. Please implement this feature.

Not likely to happen, I guess it is time to migrate of off Adobe Cloud, since they do not care about the customers at all.

I like all the wo is me posts. How can Adobe not have implemented X?

I will admit I disagree with Adobe on how they prioritze (e.g. I would much rather have manual facial tagging then a new mask). But Adobe does (sort of) listen and fix a number of issues or implement a number of items from the forums. Soon after a release, watch the forum, and you will see a number of threads show up. When you open them it often is a message from Rikk F that it has been implemented or fixed.

My anecdotal number is usually around five to ten bug fixes and at least one/two features implemented. Now, can they just fix facial tagging?

When importing RAW & JPEG files (of the same photo), please can there be an option to automatically stack these in Lightroom CC.

This option already exists in Lightroom Classic (see toggle "Treat JPEG files next to RAW files as separate photos"). Please can it be made available in Lightroom CC. Should be easy to do as the feature already exists!

This is such basic functionality, I don't understand how Adobe haven't implemented it yet. I'm on the verge of cancelling my all apps CC subscription and moving to a competitor, the workflow with Lightroom as it stands is awful if you wish to keep JPEGs and RAWs.

It's incredulous that a basic feature present in Classic, and has been requested in the Creative Cloud version since 2018  still hasn't been implemented. It is now 2023. That's 5 YEARS.  To copy over code or at least an algorithm that already exists in Classic. It's almost a sick joke at this point (together with dual monitor support), except we users are the butt of it. I know it's no consolation, but I reconfigured my camera to shoot only DMGs.

Hi all, there is a quick solution.

Enable import of both Raw and JPEG by:
- Go to Lightroom Preferences
- Genera --> (enable) Treat JPEG files next to raw files as separate photos

Then in the library:
1) Select all pics
2) Right click
3) Stacking -> Auto-Stack by Capture Time...
4) Bring the slider to the far left (Smaller stacks 0:00:00)

That is for Classic. It is not available in the cloud version.
