P: program error (558e76.312): Stamp Visible

Cmd+Opt+Shift+E (Stamp Visible / Merge Visible) fails with program error (558e76.312).

Additionally, dragging assets from Libraries into the canvas also fails with the same error.

This worked previously and still works in regular Photoshop (non-Beta).

Occurs even when:
- All layers are rasterized
- No Smart Objects present
- No Generative layers
- No Adjustment layers
- GPU enabled or disabled

This breaks core professional workflows using Clone Stamp, Healing, Liquify, and Libraries.
This appears to be a regression introduced in the latest Photoshop Beta update.

I recently updated photoshop Beta. I have windows 11. Now I get a program error when trying to use magic erase. Any solutions?

1. Try resetting Prefs for the Beta:

Launch BETA Photoshop While Pressing The Keyboard Shortcut
With Photoshop closed, press and hold Shift+Ctrl+Alt (Win) / Shift+Command+Option (Mac) on your keyboard and then Launch Photoshop the way you normally would.

I've reset the preferences, and also had a member of Adobe Support remotely take over my Mac to try to resolve the error. They concluded that it must be a bug within Beta, and I should wait for the next update, as I don't have this issue on the normal Photoshop app.

I frequently encounter an error when using the Merge Visible Layers (Stamp Visible) command.
Exact error message:Unable to complete the Merge Visible Layers command due to a program error (558e76.312)
 
Shortcut used:
CMD + ALT + SHIFT + E
 
Configuration:
Photoshop Beta 27.3.0
macOS 26.2
 
The issue does not occur every time but happens quite often, especially on large files with many layers.
It did not occur in previous versions.

I am unable to merge visible, Alt + Ctrl + Shift, in the latest Photoshop Beta (just downloaded today). I am getting an error: "Could not complete the merge visible command because of a program error (558e76.312)."  Version 23.7.0. Windows 11.

the keyboard shortcut that creats a stamp visable layer Ctrl+shift+alt+e creats a program error . 588e76.312

I use this snapshot create tool and it is extreamly useful if i want to go back to an early stage in my workflow.

also the contextual aware bar seems to have disappeared and now can only use if from the edit menu the edit menu

It seems that during the last update the developers messed up with something and now the program forgot that it can create a new layer automatically. This is happening with smart objects as well.

The solution for your problem is to "help" the program by making a new layer first, then Ctrl Shift Alt E with this new layer selected will not return you an error.

i drop another image into this document on top ( making a new layer )  
all good.. 

i drop another image into this same document making a 2nd new layer  ( 3 total including background ) 

the newest layer image will not drop, it instatnly dissappears

Use the command Alt+Shift+Ctrl+E a lot. During 2026 I get  the message program error 558e76.312. I cannot find a answer what that means or what to do. Is it a known bug that adobe will fix soon? Cannot remenber getting errormessages before.

Lateley i have a problem with sky replacement not working in PS Beta 27.3 it's giving me "Could not create a new document because of a program error (558e76.312)." I have latest AMD drivers installed, done clean PS re-install with removing all leftover folders, when I opened same image in stable versionit's working without any issues.

Which method are you using to "drop" another image into the current document?

When you look in your layers panel, is the third layer at the top of the panel? If not, drag it to the top. If you're not sure then show a screenshot of your layers panel.

What are your versions of Photoshop Beta and OS?

Without seeing a screenshot, we can only guess.

Im pretty sure its an update bug as i use PS Beta and it started right after I updated. 

so if i have an open document, i can drag and drop another image into it.  which automatically is created in a new layer

but if i but if i try drag and drop a second image it wont work. 

Its working fine in normal PS so its no biggie but as they just updated the Beta version i thought id flag it as its not a minor flaw.

Are you dragging from Windows File Explorer, Adobe Bridge, or from another Photoshop document? 

Again what do you see in your Layers panel? Show us a screenshot, please.

I just discovered by accident that if any layer except the top one is selected, the merge visible function will work normally and the merged layer will appear just above the selected layer. From there it can be dragged to the top if desired. It's an easy workaround but shouldn't be necessary.

Got the answer from another post. The command works when asking it from a layer that is not the top layer. Any not visible layer on the top will work.

I'm getting this error as well in the Beta version.  I am on a Windows desktop.  Also sky replacement is not available.  All of these things work just fine in regular Photoshop.  I rolled back to the previous version (27.2) and that Beta works fine as well.

I found anathor method, Make a new blank layer on top then you can use Ctrl+Alt+Shift+E (merge visible) normally.
