This has been making me crazy forever.  In each new version I'm hoping it goes away, but it keps happening. I even tried the new Beta and it is still there.

What happens:

  • When I try to use the tool sizing keys, [ and ], they simply don't work and I have to go to the tool or brush setting dropdown at the top right, to resize it manually.  This really interrupts my workflow and creative process
  • Once reset manually, then the brackets work for a while, until they don't.

Please fix this!

TIA,

Richard

Hi @andrewm35765582

Try resetting Prefs for the Beta:
/Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/ Photoshop Beta Settings (Mac Ventura)
/Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/Adobe\ Photoshop\ \(Beta\)\ Settings (Mac)

C:\Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop (Beta)\Adobe Photoshop (Beta) Settings

Launch BETA Photoshop While Pressing The Keyboard Shortcut
With Photoshop closed, press and hold Shift+Ctrl+Alt (Win) / Shift+Command+Option (Mac) on your keyboard and then Launch Photoshop the way you normally would.

Uploaded the PS beta release 25.11 m.2679 on 6/27/2024.  Bracket keys no longer resize the brushes.  The bracket keys still function properly on my standard desktop version.  Windows 11

I found a workaround that so far has been working for me. I have modified the keyboard shortcut to the following settings. Even though I set new shortcut keys for brush size, the bracket keys somehow start working again.

The team is aware of this and will have a fix in an upcoming release.

Temp workaround is to remove new addition of Key Board Short Cut for layer boundary.

My left and right brackets still work in regular PS, but as of today no longer change my brush size in Beta. I reset preferences, restart Photoshop Beta and my laptop, but no dice. I also uninstalled Beta and reinstalled. They still do not work.

Photoshop Beta 25.11.0

After updating, I noticed that the keyboard shortcuts for changing the brush size no longer worked.  (I use a Tour Box for this, but the keyboard didn't work either)  In the Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts menu, both the Increas/Decreas Brush Size and Show Previous/Next Layer Boundry were assigned the [ and ] keys.  Changing the Layer Boundry shortcuts to something else (< and > in my case) restored the expected Brush Size functions to the [ and ] keys.

Hi! Thanks for the heads up! Did you try resetting the Brush tools to see if that fixes the issue?

I forgot to ask if you know how to do that!?! With the brush tool selected, Go to the options bar and from the Preset tool menu, select the dropdown to see the brush tool presets. Select the gera icon on the right side of the dropdown, and from the menu choose Reset tool. See if that makes a difference?

I see in another thread this has been reported to Adobe and they suggested a similar workaround.

I just updated photoshop and now the brush size is not working to change brush bigger or smaller with the [ or ]  shortcut.

I restarted my computer, tried seaching shortcut modifications but nothing is working.

However the {} is working to change softness.

I cant get any work done when i keep having to go to the top and manully get the right size brush every few seconds.
Anyone have an easy reset fix to this? Or is this a bug from updating?
Its really messing with my editing schedule.

@Alyssa5C65 try manually resetting your Photoshop preferences

Remember to back up your settings before doing the preference reset

After the latest beta update the brush size keyboard shortcut keys [ ] stopped working.  This is happening on both Windows and Mac.

Is this something I can re-enable, or do I need to wait for another software revision?
