P: Gen Expand Seam/Banding Issue / Keine nahtlosen Übergänge mehr

Community Beginner ,
Aug 23, 2023 Aug 23, 2023

Previous versions - Generative Expand was seamless. It no longer creates seamless images. I can provide a photo as an example if needed... v25.0 (will revert to 24.7)

The previous versions of Beta had amazing seamless results. Whatever was selected blended in great with the rest of the scene. Now with the new update when you make a selection and hit generate it has a hard line where your origial selection was. Not sure what changed.

Is there any fix to this? Others have reported the same problem with the newest version (v. 25.0) in this forum and all over Facebook -- many suggested reverting to the previous version, but generative fill/generative expand no longer work at all in the previous version. Any suggestions? This is MASSIVELY slowing down work flow and I'm desperately seeking a solution! 😕

Unfortunately, the fix did not fix! Attaching this example, I added the three white dots to indicate the seam in case it wasn't readily apparent.

The issue with the seam between original image and expansion was not fixed with this update.

I have found a work around but I shouldn't have to do that.

Running Windows 11.

I have updated to the latest version of Photoshop Beta (25.0) earlier this week to my MacBook Pro

Since then, everytime I attempt to use the new generative expand command, it doesnt work properly.

Hello - the fix did not land in the latest update but we are getting close. For now I would suggest using GenFill instead of expand OR utilize GenFill to repair the seam: using the rectangle marquee too, make a selection around the seam, no prompt needed, and genfill it away.

Thank you for your patience, we will update as soon as possible!

Having the same problem! I am so upset it is not seamless anymore, it looks so fake now, wish they left the previous version, thought it was almost perfect!

Hi, no need for a new post as we have an active thread on this that I am merging to. A fix is on the way, you might try to fix your seam using genfill in the steps in the main thread (simply select the area of the seam and let genfill fix it).

Thank you!

Caity

Hi Caity,

Thank you for the update. I've tried it before and after your suggestion I tried again to "GenFill" the seam away.

Sadly, this doesn't work for me.

It always recreates the seam, no matter how I change the selection.

Otherwise GenFill works well, just doesn't help solve the Problem.

Thank you for the update, do you have a time frame to when this could be fixed by or if it will get fixed to become seamless again?

Hi there !

Since Beta V25 (and now 25.1), I still got the same bugs when expending backgrounds colors.
On variants part, it appears great but when option choosen, it appears in PS like on this image.

Capture d'écran 2023-08-29 073925.png

Impossible now for me to use the generating option as it gets errors 90% of the time on this case.

I have tried reinstalling older version of PS Beta, but it has been blocked now by devs...

Could you please help or share your experience?

Thanks  !

Hello 🙂

I've benn using PS beta for almost three months but a problem appeared today. When I use the generative fill expanding an image, there are borders that are perfectly seen. It's not only about my photos, I also tried it on images from the internet.
