P: Lightroom Classic>Edit in PS: Long Delay+Erroneous Error Message opening Ps Beta 2024 25.0

I just recently updated Photoshop Beta to 2024 v25.0 on my Windows 11 machine.

Now when I try to open photos from LR 12.4 using the "edit in...", it hangs up for a time and then comes up saying "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop 2024 could not be launched."

When I hit "Ok" it then opens the file in Photoshop 2024.

This happens with every file, even if Photoshop 2024 is already up and running at the time.

This does not happen with 2023 v24.7.

Greetings all,

Lightroom Classic 12.5 released this evening.  If used in conjunction with PS Beta 25.0 or later, this erroneous error message plus long open wait time should be mitigated. Please install LrC 12.5 and make certain that your Beta is up to date.

If you do not see the update in your Creative Cloud Application, you can refresh it by hitting [Ctrl/Cmd]+[Alt/Opt]+[ R ].

Note: It may take up to 24 hours for your update to be available in your Creative Cloud app.

Hi there,

Out of the blue I'm having an issue where Lightroom won't send/open Images in Photoshop.

Photoshops starts, but then nothing happens for a while until I get a pop-up in Lightroom, which says it was unable to start Photoshop 2024*. And then it opens the file as a TIFF instead + also creates a copy file on my hard drive.
(*Yes, 2024, but is that correct?!)

- Lightroom 12.4
- Photoshop 24.7
- Photoshop Beta 25.0

- This happens with all sorts of tile formats (RAW, TIFF, JPG...)
- Opening multiple images as layers doesn't change anything
- I tried un- and reinstalling all those Apps + Camera Raw. I even reinstalled the drivers of my graphics card.
- The support chat gave me the Photoshop Picker plugin, which I cannot install because it "outdated".

I really don't know what to check anymore...

Does Adobe monitor this Community ? If they know about the fault, at least tell us when it is going to be fixed or allow us to bypass the Beta version. Being locked in is a disaster - preventing any use of Photoshop.

Based on my experience (sample size = 5), you click ok and about 15 seconds later, the image will open in PS beta.

When using edit in from LRC to PS Beta the file is only showing with difficulty after some minutes and OK'ing a few windows in LRC. I use WIN 11 on a reasonably fast mini PC . BEElink SEI 8279 with 32gb ram and SSD drive. In the past , before last update , all worked fine.

It is happening in both beta and regular photoshop.

Have tried unistalling and installing all 3 softwares and it still acts up. This is not a problem with any of the three software before the update.  The update messed them all up...

To revert to a previous version, you have to go to the "Beta apps" section (scroll down the left side in CC, under categories), then click the 3 dots next to the Open button. There you can Install 24.7, which will remove the current buggy version at the same time. I tried it just now and and can confirm this works. Photos will now open on the first try and I can finally get some work done! Rememeber the final step: Flip off the screen when the orange "new version available" notice cones on.

Hi All

I have recentley had problems launching Photoshop Beta 25.0.0 from Lightroom CC 12.4

This problem seems to have only materalised after I updated to the Beta version 25.0.0.

I now have to open the Beta version first and when I try to send a photo to  Photoshop Beta nothing happens for a while then I get a error message stating

"The  File could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop (Beta) could not be launched"

If I OK this message the beta version launches and everything is fine.

Surly this is not correct.

I have tried all the other suggestions i.e uninstall all the Adobe software and re-install Photoshop first. Photoshop Beta second and then Lightroom CC last.

My OS system is Mac Ventura 13.4.1

Anyone else experiencing this problem

Same for me.  Some on this community suggested the following (which I have not yet tried)

1. Use the Adobe Creative Cloud application to uninstall both Photoshop and Lightroom Classic and when asked, keep preferences.
2. Install Photoshop first, then Lightroom Classic.

Go to Edit/Preferences in Bridge, and select File Type Associations. From there you can select the version of PS you want to use for each file type.
