P: Lightroom Classic>Edit in PS: Long Delay+Erroneous Error Message opening Ps Beta 2024 25.0

I just recently updated Photoshop Beta to 2024 v25.0 on my Windows 11 machine.

Now when I try to open photos from LR 12.4 using the "edit in...", it hangs up for a time and then comes up saying "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop 2024 could not be launched."

When I hit "Ok" it then opens the file in Photoshop 2024.

This happens with every file, even if Photoshop 2024 is already up and running at the time.

This does not happen with 2023 v24.7.

Greetings all,

Lightroom Classic 12.5 released this evening.  If used in conjunction with PS Beta 25.0 or later, this erroneous error message plus long open wait time should be mitigated. Please install LrC 12.5 and make certain that your Beta is up to date.

If you do not see the update in your Creative Cloud Application, you can refresh it by hitting [Ctrl/Cmd]+[Alt/Opt]+[ R ].

Note: It may take up to 24 hours for your update to be available in your Creative Cloud app.

Because I just had to keep going on this. I uninstalled both Lr and Ps. Rebooted. Istalled Lr. Rebooted. Installed Ps. Rebooted. Now it's back to normal.

Yes I was using Ps beta and that's when the problem started. Although I had bee running it for several weeks, this only cropped up today, I think this might have been the 1st time I ws trying to use it since the most recnt update, but don't quote me om that. I tried to open a file in Ps from Lr using CTL+E. Ps(beta) opened, but the file never did. Since I needed to get work done I started using the custom external editor option that was still pointed to Ps(non-beta).

Anyway, as I say, things seem to be back to the old status quo, and I'll just wait Until the new stuff shows up in a stable version.

Thanks

Cory: Are you at Adobe, working on a fix wight the current edition of Lightroom and Photoshop Beta so that users can open a photo from Lightroom into Photoshop Beta? If so, expected publication date?

How will we know that the highlighted update is actually the correct fix and not the buggy beta?

When using Lightroom > Opening an image in Photoshop Beta no longer works

Open as Layers, Edit in Photoshop etc...etc...

I believe this is a Photoshop Beta bug as the Beta updated to 25 which is when the break occured. Previous versions of Photoshop Beta are fine.

I have the most current versions of Lightroom Classic and Photoshop Beta on my desktop PC (windows 11).  I have been editing photos in both programs since last year and never had any issues using the "Edit in" command in Lightroom to send photos to Photoshop for editing.  Last week, this function stopped working.  When I attempt to send a photo from Lightroom to Photoshop for editing Photoshop opens to the “Home” screen and then I get a message a couple of minutes later that says the photo cannot be edited because Photoshop failed to launch even though it did launch.  About a minute later, the photo opens in Photoshop.  Also, when I try to open photos as layers in Photoshop, the Photoshop “Home” screen opens but the photos do not ever open there.  I just get an error message that says, “The files could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop 2024 could not be launched.”  I have uninstalled and reinstalled Lightroom Classic and Photoshop multiple times but that has not resolved the issue.  Has anyone else had this problem and does anyone have a solution?

My workaround for this (which worked for me) is to roll back to the old version of LR (12.2.1). The migration issue seems to be with LR v12.4.  I see no issues with PS Beta V 25.0. Hope this helps. Cheers!

Photoshop launches but the image selected in Lightroom Classic does not open anymore. I've downloaded and attempted to install the ps picker plug in as per Adobe support but when I add it, it says it is deprecated. What does that mean? I am running current versions of LR and PS.

How do I get LR to open an image in PS? Worked fine before...

If this is a Lightroom issue then someone in the Photoshop division talk to
someone in the Lightroom division. It’s the same company. Solve this,
please.

I am having the same issue. I don't know how to fix it and it is super frustrating. I just wanted to add that it is happening on my windows 11 PC as well.

I am using PS2023 not Beta version. Also, I am using Mac.

Interestingly, the "open with" function doesn't open the file but the "open as a smart object" does although when closing the file in Photoshop this error pops up.

I got mine to sort of work by adding Photoshop as the alternative app. It seemed to glitch when saving and I am not sure where it put my file, certainly did not show up in my lightroom catalog as it normally would.

for the person rolling back to LRC 12.2.1, did you try 12.3? Were there any issues with that and PS Beta 25.0?

Yes, reverting from Beta v25 to 24.7 restored the edit in functionality for switching from lightroom to editing in Photoshop beta. Adobe please fix.

I went back to PS Beta 24.7 and that solved the problem. Can now open CR files from LR in both PS and PS Beta, without any problems or creating unwanted tiff files etc.

If you have installed the latest Beta 25.0 then is that the issue.

This is a known issue.

You can go back to the former Beta version 24.7.

My simple workaround is to manually transfer files from LR to PS Beta. It involves a few more keystrokes as I right-click on the image in LR and go to file location, right click that file and select open in PS Beta. When done, I save to same location with new name. Back in LR I re-synchronise LR, so it picks up the edited image into its catalogue. Simples!

Of course, Adobe are no doubt working on a fix which may in fact be a LR issue not PS???

When trying to "Edit in Photoshop" from Lightroom Classic, I always get an error message saying it couldn't open Photoshop (Beta). Windows are changing from Lightroom to Photoshop, but the image doesn't load. After like 3-4 minutes, the image finally loads as a TIFF image and it's showing in Lightroom too.

Source images are Canon CR3 files from Canon R5 denoised using the new AI denoiser in Lightroom and, thus,  converted to DNG.

That issue wasn't a thing before the last update a few days ago and has always been working flawlessly until that most recent beta update.

Tried uninstalling Photoshop and Lightroom completely. Forced deleted pref from Photoshop too without success.

macOS 12.6.5 on Intel processor.

ctrl+e export to photoshop 2024 doesn't work. so far everything was ok. The ctrl+e shortcut worked, the photo appeared in photoshop beta and I was able to work. Now it shows a message after a few minutes that photoshop 2024 did not start and only then the photo for editing from LrC is switched to Ps beta. Why did it work before and now it doesn't work?

I have issues sending for editing from Lightroom to Photoshop with the Lightroom adjustments, an error occurs. It only works to send to Photoshop if it's a photo sent without the Lightroom adjustments. This has been happening since the last update. I have uninstalled all the programs and reinstalled them, but the problem persists. Any solution? Thank you very much.
