This crash is 100% reproductible in my Photoshop 23.1.0, running on Windows 11.

Here are the steps to reproduce:

1. Create a new document and a new layer in that document

2. Click the magnifier button in the upper right ("Search for tools, help and more")

3. Type "rename" in the search box

4. Select the "Rename layer" option that appears

5. Enter a name for the layer and hit Enter on the keyboard

6. Observe the crash

None of the suggestions from this page help with this issue: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/troubleshoot-crash-or-freeze.html?trackingid=W2T7JV6Q&mv=in-pro...

I know there are easier ways to rename a layer, but still, I thought it would be good to let you know of this crash.

Hi Tarun,

Yes, this is happening on the latest version of Photoshop. The version number, as reported by PS and Creative Cloud is 23.1

Thanks for your response.

Could you please try to create a document and add a layer, then go to the Layers tab > select rename layer > give a name to the layer and then press enter and check if the application is crashing or not? We're here to help. Just need some info.

Regards,

Tarun

I tried it and PS does not crash when using the menu item. It only crashes after searching, as described in my original post.

Hi,

I've attached the System Info you requested as well as a Crash Report.

Since my first post, I've installed a new update to PS (Creative Cloud notified me today that there was a new update). The problem persists even with this update, and there's a new related bug - when using the search functionality, the first result is not selectable by keyboard (when using the arrow keys it just skips past it). I can however still click it to activate it.

Let me know if I can be of any help.

The only item that seems strange is the

useOpenCL: 0

Not sure why that is failing.

Still investigating, I have a slightly older driver with a similar (1070) card.
