P: Crashes in OpenCL when changing image size (windows)

Anyone else having an issue with Photoshop crashing when trying to change image size.  I have a lot of orders to complete and this was no issue until I did the update.  HELP!!!!!  And I have done three of these

    @gsasaki , OpenCL is used across a wide range of Photoshop features (Liquify, Blur Gallery, Image resize) to tap into GPU and CPU computing methods to speed up certain functions. But times have changed, and Apple and Microsoft promote altnerate methods for acceleration that require significant rewrites of all these features. When OpenCL and OpenGL are eventually discontinued, features not reworked will just not work at all.

    Turning OpenCL off falls back to the previous CPU only methods, which might work slower, but more reliably on modern operating systems. Turning off the whole GPU is, as you say, overkill, and it also puts Photoshop into a GPU-less state, whick knocks out a broader set of features than just the OpenCL features listed above.

    Keep it off, and I don't think you'll notice the impact. In the meantime, we are continuing to work on converting features off of Open CL/GL to more modern frameworks.

      I found that turning off OpenCL in the GPU preferences would stop the errors. Turning off the GPU totally also works, but it is overkill. I haven't figured out why this works yet

      I use photo shop cc to make template for photo booth graphics.  Every time I resize an image  as an example 1844 px x 1244 to 1800 x 1200   I get a notifacation saying photo shop needs to close and it sends a report. 

      I have checed and my GPU is compatable. my entire system is compatibale. the software is uptodate.  any ideas on how ican get some help ?

        Also Photoshop crashes are usually caused by either failing hardware or buggy drivers, especially the GPU driver, have you tried updating that from the manufacturers website

        @Francois24390502kvlw , looks like your nVidia card driver is up to date, but Photoshop is not using the nVidia card; it looks like it's using the Intel Graphics card, and that driver is old and the card relatively underpowered.

        Best bet is to cut over to the nvidia card for Photoshop, as it is a more powerful card, and it might be better with OCL.

         

        If anybody else has a non ARM based Windows system, you should also check to make sure you don't have the Microsoft OCL Compatibility Pack update installed; it is not required for non ARM systems and might be an explanation for this rash of OCL issues we've been hearing about.

          Try this: go to Preferences > Performance and click on the "Advanced Settings" button. Uncheck Use OpenCL, restart Photoshop and try your steps to see if the problem persists.

          The latest UP-TO-DATE version of Photoshop 23.3.2 crashes if I try to do anything with my image. The program provides a list of "Work arounds" but none of these help.   I cannot change width or height, or DPI  --when I click OK, the program crashes.  I have sent 6 reports in sequence, I have removed the font, and it still crashes.

           

          Has anyone figured out how to make this program work?

          If I cannot use it, I am certainly not willing to pay for it!

          I did what @J453  suggested. Turning off the "use openCL" setting. This has solved the crashing issues. Cheers!

          GPU bugs are very common. More and more functionality is moving to GPU in Adobe products. So it isn't uncommon to find issues after a new release. Contact the GPU manufacturer for updates.
