After latest update Photoshop 21.1.0 hangs while trying to use the Shawdows/Highlights tool. Spinning beachball appears and you have to Force Quit the app. Happens everytime.

I have this problem on Mac OS 10.14.6. 1. Open image from Lightroom 9.2 2. Duplicate layer 3. Open Highlights/Shadow ffrom Image adjustments 4. Image is modified according to default. 5. Try to adjust H/S settings and I get beachball freeze, must force quit

Ever since updating to the latest PS2020 (v21.1), I'm getting lock ups in the Shadow/Highlight panel (on Mac Mojave). It will let you move one slider once, then you get stuck with the spinning beach ball.
I've been having similar problems for a while with the Levels palette, usually while trying to choke an alpha channel. Seems to have now spread to S/H in the newest version. Losing a lot of time to this stupidness.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to reproduce this issue. I would like to track it down so I can have an engineering debug and fix it. I tried Ed's steps which were pretty explicit. Is the issue specific to your Leica file or some other thing specific to the files this is happening with? Do you get a freeze with a new file, 8 or 16bit RGB?

This problem is not specific to the Leica dng files. ( It is not necessary to duplicate the layer first, although that's how I first encountered the problem.) I get the beachball freeze with a .tif file downloaded from the web. The freeze occurs whether the file is RGB, Grayscale, 16bit or 8 bit. Also, when I create a new 8-bit document in PS and fill it with a gradient, the freeze occurs after a few tweaks of the H/S sliders. Maybe it's worth noting that a new document permits a few tweaks before freezing, while with an imported file will allow only one tweak of a single slider.
In french = Tons foncés / Tons clairs in english = Shawdows/Highlights

Look at this video: picture 16 bits macOS PS 21.1.0 10.15.3, je aunt to change cursor, as soon as I touch the only resolution the first cursor, 2 dryness and multicoloured ball, to close PS roughly not of log, no message of error....
Will a crash log file help you guys? I have the one from this morning's occurrence. I've since backgraded to 21.0.3, but can give you the crash log.
It *does* seem to be image specific, meaning after I force quit & reopen the same image, it locks up again (a Getty jpg, in this case). Works fine with other images. Bitdepth doesn't seem to matter.
Not need of file test, create a new file simply, for instance with the model A4, draw something and speed up function, move a cursor and there the multicoloured ball is very busy, and at the end of some minutes, PS does not answer any more.
This .psd file blocks PS 21.1.0 if using Image / Settings / Dark tones / High tones : https://adobe.ly/32i6K1R

I am getting the same hanging on Shadows and Highlights on an iMac running 21.1.0 under Mojave 10.14.6 OS and also on a latest version fully spec'd Mac mini al.so running 21.1.0 under Mojave10.14.6 and it happens whatever image I am attempting to edit with the jpg. images originating on Olympus, Panasonic and Sony cameras. This is a definite bug.
After further experimentation I have found that the hanging only happens if you use the sliders in Shadows and Highlights. If you enter percentages in the boxes the adjustments work without causing Photoshop to hang.
So the bug relates to the sliders. It needs resolving asap.
Same crash for me - PS Shadows/Highlight Tools crashes as soon as I change anything. I must PS force to stop. Same problem on a laptop with MacOS Sierra.
Exact same thing happening to me on MacPro running 10.13.6 after update to 21.1. Shadow/Highlight tool causes freeze. Have to force quit. Haven't tried it yet on MacBook pro running Mojave. Have resorted to using Photoshop CC2019. Please fix asap.
