P: Image Resize Distorts / Corrupts File on M1 MAX macs

When I use the Image Size command (CMD + OPT + I or Image>Image Size) in Photoshop, it completely destroys the image file. I tried the same process on two other Macs with the same file (copied from Mac to Mac) and it worked just fine on the other two Macs, so it is not the image file.

There must be a bug/malfunciton in Photoshop, but I can't figure out what it is or how to fix it.

The other two Macs that it worked on the one is identical to mine, a MacBook Pro 16" M1 Pro, the other is a 12 year old MacPro 5,1 tower running Photoshop CS6. Both of those successfully resized the image.

Well, that's a new one.

I'm going to point my finger at Monterey 12.3. There has been no end to new problems since it was released.

I'll ask the usual first question: Does it happen whether GPU Acceleration is turned on or off?

PROBLEM SOLVED.....well, sort of.

Very good observation. GPU Acceleration (or "Use Graphics Processor") was turned on when the problem occurred.

I just finished with Adobe Tech Support. They were very expedient and helpful.

Their solution to solve the problem (glitch), is to turn OFF "Use Graphics Processor" in Preferences>Performance, and then pump up the % of RAM used by Photoshop (in the same Preferences>Performance window) to 80% or better. I then resized the image (it was a large file, so with Graphics Processor off, it took forever) and it worked. No more corruption of the image. When it was done, I put my Performance settings back to where they normally are (ie. turn on "Use Graphics Process" and put RAM down to about 70%)

So, I don't think it's totally Monterey's fault as I was successfully able to complete this process on a MacBook Pro with the M1 PRO chip. Where it failed was on the MacBook Pro with the M1 MAX chip. Go figure, the more powerful processor doesn't work. The M1 Max has more graphics cores than the M1 PRO, so maybe there's something there that PS can't manage. I'm just guessing that's where the problem is.

@J453 is it normal to see third party plugins listed alongside the default ones? Could that be a parameter to take in account during troubleshooting?

@PECourtejoie I'm not sure I'd say it's "normal" that 3rd party plug-ins are showing up in the "Required plugins" list in System Info, but it's been the way Photoshop has been reporting 3rd party plug-ins such as 8BF filters for a few versions now. I think we may have a bug on it already. I'll double check.

Any update on this issue. I'm using Apple M1 Ultra and 12.4 Monterey... same image corruption is occuring for me too when resizing. The same temporary fix (turning off use graphics processor) works, but is painfully slow.

I am having a similar problem. After saving large layered tiffs (around 1.5GB closed) I am having, and have for a while, currupted layer masks. I can usually step back a bit in the history to a point before the corruption and save and quit. But then it will happen again a little later. It is a file that I have changed the size of by using the crop tool, basically expanding the canvas, and not deleting cropped pixels. I am also using a M1 Pro Max Laptop. OS 12.6. I just upgraded to PS 23.5.1. I will see if it happens in that version. I was only using the most previous version, not sure what that was. I will also try turning off GPU accelleration, but memory usage was already at 70%. I'll up it to 80%.
