Go to Preferences > Performance... and uncheck Use Graphics Processor. Restart Photoshop. Does the problem persist?

Is your GPU detected and enabled in your Photoshop 23 Preferences performance section.

image.png

On my windows machine It detect objects OK but there is a big delay for the marching ants to appear if I shift Click  a found object  or drag or a box around an object.  I get no error message  Also comparing the selection  made by select object tool and the selection made by subject. The Select subject selection is much better.  Select object is a good starting point you need the refine the selecion made.

Hi All,

To anyone who is experiencing this issue. There is a fix currently in the beta version of Photoshop with a gestalt.

1. Download the current beta drop from the Creative Cloud Desktop App (m.1618)
2. Create a text file and add the text: "ForceObjectSelectionCPU 1"
3. Save the text file as "PSUserConfig.txt" in this path on your Windows machine:
[Installation Drive]:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2022\Adobe Photoshop CC 2022 Settings\
4. Restart Photoshop and try again

Please let us know how it goes!

Thanks Hannh,

A couple questions.

  1. I assume I put the text file here: C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop (Beta)\Adobe Photoshop (Beta) Settings rather than the folder you specified?
  2. Do I set "Use Graphics Processor" on or off in File->Preferences->performance?

Thanks,

Every time I try to select an object using "object selection" it comes up with an error "could not complete your request because of a program error".

I have tried:

- using different images (same error on each)

- updating photoshop (still happening)

- going back to older versions of photoshop (no change)

Any help or suggestions?

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out.

Could you please share the version of Photoshop (Help > About Photoshop) and the version of Windows on your computer?

Are you seeing this issue after any recent updates? Is it happening with only the Object Selection Tool or other tools?

Please go to Edit > Preferences > Performance section and uncheck the option "Use Graphics Processor." Restart your Adobe Photoshop and see whether it helps. If the issue persists, check out the other solutions.

Try to reset your Photoshop preferences.
You may try to reset Photoshop preferences back to defaults and check if that helps.

Here's the article for the steps: https://adobe.ly/3ceal5t

Also, back up the existing Photoshop preferences if you have any custom brushes, actions, and workspace: https://adobe.ly/2vNz6FG

You can try the steps suggested here: https://adobe.ly/2JZDqZB.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,

Ranjisha

Version of photoshop: 23.5.1

windows: Windows 10 Home version: 21H2

after the most recent download, I was able to use the object selection tool for 2 designs and then this started to happen.

I have tried everything you suggested, no luck.

I am trying to run the user diagnostics plugin, but I can't figure out how to find the error stacks that are copied to the clipboard. Is someone able to help with that?

This is not really an ideal solution, however, can help in isolating the issue.

If you are using Windows, navigate to Device Manager - under Display Adapters, you will see your Graphics card listed, right click on it and then click Disable

Go ahead and test Photoshop now and share the results with us.
