P: Photoshop can't open, freezes on splash image, uses all of ram trying to open then crashes.

I have googled every possible variation of this problem and tried every fix for this problem, none of them worked. I have tried reinstalling photoshop, deleting everything even remotely related to photohop in the appdata, deleting custom fonts, restarting the computer, updating graphics and computer, and holding every possible combination of alt, ctrl and shift while trying to launch in administrator mode. The result is always the same. It opens the splash image, gets to loading preferences or brushes, spikes RAM usage to every last byte of RAM I have, freezes the computer, then crashes.

And no i'm not running it on a potato i'm running it on an Alienware Aurora 4090, it should have more than enough power to handle this and Photoshop ran perfectly fine for months. Then just today it crashed and has never started up again.

Photoshop version 25.11

UPDATE

We identified a problem with a recent Adobe update that caused Photoshop and several other Adobe beta apps to fail to launch. We’ve released an updated installer to fix this problem. Please download and install the latest Creative Cloud beta applications. This update should resolve the launch issue.

Thanks,

Cory - Photoshop Product Manager

Same here. For past two days PS will not open. I also tried resetting prefs, uninstalling, reinstall.  Same problem on PS Beta. Other Adobe products like Premeir Pro seem OK. Glad (but sorry) you are having same problem. I was worried I have a corrupt disk. Hours wasted!, let's hope Apple or Adobe fixes this

I’m using a MacBook 2019 with the Sonoma. 14.5. After my automatic update a few days ago I can no longer open Photoshop. I had versions 2023 and 2024 and unininstalled them both. Then I reinstalled 2024, same problem. Uninstalled everything again. Then I tried BETA. Samething. I checked to make sure all my Adobe apps worked, no problem. Then I installed  the later version, 22.2.0. and that worked. I have no more intuitive ideas. Please help.

Photoshop version 25.11.0 all of a sudden will not load - at first it froze at loading pref... I deleted the big file size Brush pref and still the same - I moved more prefs, so then it would freeze at "Adding extension... Halide Bottlenecks"  --  I then deleted Photoshop and downloaded another copy from Creative Cloud - Still it freezes  at : "Adding extension... Halide Bottlenecks"  -- I've sent in crash reports and I haven't received any response - so I'm posting here looking for suggestions - maybe someone here might help.

Did you use the Cleaner Tool before re-installing?

https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

Photoshop 25 should still work with MacOS 14.5 according to

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/system-requirements.html

Thank y'all for your replies and for confirming that it's not just me. This is really frustrating. Fortunately, for me, earning a living does not currently depend on my use of Photoshop. But the weekly podcast I co-host does rely on my use of Photoshop. Crossing fingers this get resolved for all of us quickly!

I finally resolved this by using the "Clean All" option on the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool.  This completely erased all my Adobe apps and their folders (except for Adobe Acrobat), so first I backed up all the settings/prefs/presets from them that I wanted to keep. I had to reinstall everything. But now Photoshop opens again!

So maybe it is a corrupt file that multiple apps rely on that is causing this, even though it only seems to impact Photoshop and Illustrator?

My apps started running slow while I was working today, so I updated, and now neither will load.

Illustrator—the dock icon shows the app is open, but it won't get past the initializing screen, and then freezes completely on "initializing Plug-ins," of which there should be none.

Photoshop—the dock icon either contiuously bounces or displays like the app is closed, and it displays the initializing screen, which freezes on "Done Sorting Font List."

What I've tried:

- I've uninstalled and reinstalled both apps numerous times

- I've restarted my computer numerous times

- I've deleted/restored largest preset files

- I've deleted all third-party font files in my Font Book

- I've reinstalled all Adobe fonts

So far, it's been about 4 hours of troubleshooting with no progress whatsoever.

Any advice?

I have Photoshop (Beta) v.25.12, Photoshop v.25.11, Illustrator (Beta) and Illustrator 28.6, and my system is using Mac OS Sonoma 14.5.

I'm having the same issue with Photoshop, Illustrator, & Indesign. Lightroom, Premiere, and Audition all load without incident. I tried using the cleaner tool on all 3 apps, installed previous versions of these apps, safe mode, countless restarts, etc. @adobe, we could really use a fix ASAP.

It just keeps hanging on adding extension. I remove all extensions to get it to open but it only did that after I reinstalled it and remove the extensions. Very buggy now.

Do you know that you can launch Photoshop while holding down the Shift key, which forces it to not load third party plugins and extensions?

If you start with none of them installed and install them one at a time and test, you can tie it down to the problem add on.  Or is this happening with all plugins and extensions?

Can you list them for us?  Have you checked the website for each one to see if there is a known issue?  I can't remember a similar thread to yours.

It would be useful to know the OS version you are using, and specific hardware (i.e.  M1, M2, Intel etc.

Shame issue. I start Photoshop up, and then it freezes at Halide Bottlenecks. I have followed all the online advice, but nothing works. It's so odd, because Photoshop was fine just a few days ago. Really frustrating, as I have some important work to do.

You saved my life, I was struggling thinking about what to do, I am a user of a macbook m1 with sonoma 14.5, normally I do not update the OS, until months after there have been no errors in the working software, but this time I trusted myself, since I had not read reports about it, when I tried to enter Photoshop and it just kept loading I panicked, but thanks to you I was able to resolve the situation in a much simpler way than having to downgrade to Ventura... thank you very much!!

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

Hi @AXN Studio what version of Ps beta are you updating to? Do you have any issues with an older version, trying to make sure you can launch Ps beta and what version you see this issue with?

Thanks,
