P: Photoshop CC 25.9 (non-beta) Error: 0xc0000142

Hi,

I've noticed that there has been an isssue reported with Photoshop CC 25.9 (beta) here about Photoshop failing to start with error 000142.

However, it looks like this is now occurring on the released version of 25.9.

Photoshop auto-updated itself today (was working fine before), and I  now get the same error 000142 when I try and start it. This is NOT a Photoshop beta version.

This is on Windows 10. CPU is a 14 year old Intel core i7.

I know it's old.... but it's been working fine with no issues 🙂

Is this no longer supported?

If that is the case, why did the auto-updater allow Photoshop to update?

Am I going to need to downgrade back to the previous version or is this issue going to be fixed? 

Seems very strange that if Adobe knew of this issue that v25.9 would be released without fixing it.

If I do need to downgrade, how do I do that? I can't see a way to select a version to install.

Ok, if old hardware and software are to be supported in perpetuity, why can't I run CC 2024 in Windows 7? Because the hardware and OS are no longer supported. We pay a monthly subscription fee, but older systems are constantly being phased out of it and can no longer support the current versions. This isn't a wrong answer, it's a demonstrable fact. Look at all the posts by people whose systems are no longer being supported by Adobe, PC and Mac. There are thousands of them. Either they find a way to download and install an older, compatible version, or they have to update or replace their systems.

Again there was no warning from Adobe, despite what we pay for their package.

Do you mean that Adobe is right not to care for its customers ?

In any case, this is what we understand they do.

In the recent years, we alreay seen them abandonning the maintenance of the very costly CS6 suite, to switch to an annual subscription which was advertized as an improvement ...probably just for Adobe shareholders benefits

Darn it.  Everything was working yesterday, no troubles!  Today I have the "...application was unable to start corretly (0xc0000142) garbage!  WTF?  Back in the day, I would just get my disk and reload it because I owned the damn thing.  Now the rented software is on the fritz and I can't get my work done.  Boo

Lo del blog, por ejemplo, es una pantomima para tenernos callados y que pensemos que atienden nuestros comentarios y demandas. Nada más lejos de la realidad.  Gracias por todo, Adobe. 
Bailamos al son que nos marcan, está claro. Es triste que inviertan más dinero en captar software pirata que en solventar los problemas de quienes sí pagamos su producto. Pero es fácil verlo desde la cima de la montaña. Una pena.

Which version of Photoshop do you use?

What has been changed on your system before the error occur?

Please provide a copy of your 'System Info'. This can be get from the Photoshop menu item Help > System Info. There's a copy button in the System Info dialog. Press this button and paste the info into your next forum post. If Photoshop doesn't start correctly type 'msinfo' into any OS search field, and then share the results here. Thanks.

If you have install the update to PS 25.9 you can try to go back to the former version.

Install previous versions of your Creative Cloud apps (adobe.com)

A fix for this issue is in Public Beta version 25.10

Han tardado (casi seis semanas), pero parece que lo han solucionado.

I had the same problem with you.  Was using an old system, but upgraded my graphics card and everything was fine one day and the next PS would give me the 142 error and PS Beta would not open at all. I had to go back several versions on PS to get it to open.  I finally said [cursing removed] with this and bought a new computer and everything is working fine.  That's an expensive fix, but my computer needed to be replaced anyway.

I'm getting the same error with Photoshop 25.9  "The application couldn't be started correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application" I had to install version 25.7 to get it to work. This is not the fix I want or pay for.  According to Intel my processor supports  SSE version 4.2. If it didn't I would have had the same problem 4 years ago when Photoshop started requiring  SSE version 4.2

ich kann Photoshop nicht mehr starten, es kommt immer die Fehlermeldung von Windows 

Habe Photoshop neu installiert, über cms /scannow bereits alles durchgeführt, habe es als Admin probiert zu öffnen und auch den Kompatibilitätsmodus. Funktioniert leider alles nicht. Hat jemand eine Idee, das Problem zu lösen?

Grafikkarte ist auch auf dem aktuellsten Stand.

As a side note, while troubleshooting this issue, I came across an unrelated tool called paletools, which is an Android APK for FIFA games. It made me think about how useful specialized tools are for specific applications. Is there any equivalent troubleshooting tool for Photoshop that could help address this error?

They probably don't test Photoshop on old CPUs anymore that's why they never encountered this before releasing it.

Just tries to install 25.9.1 with hopefully a fix for the 0xc0000142 error, but it failed also to start.

So back to 25.7 again which works still fine.

See the pinned reply at the top of the page. The fix is not (yet) in the released version — only in the beta.
