P: Photoshop creates a gude log while working with files

Community Beginner ,
Apr 14, 2022 Apr 14, 2022

[WARN] WGudeRequest::applyAutoDetectProxyAutoConfigSettings Failed to autodetect proxy settings. WinHTTP Unable To Download Script. last error code = 12167

Hat jemand ein ähnliches Problem und kann mir helfen? Vielen Dank.

I read that article thats how i tried to fix it but it did not work!!! Something about community share like possible art theft or people peaking in on projects...

This started happening to me today. It began after working with 2 separate PSD files, one which I made a copy of (as a template of sorts) and used that to save my final changes to. After I made my edits I went to save and overwrite the later file. The next time I double clicked that new saved file these log files started appearing.

Wild that this is still happening after almost a year. A few versions back it was the similar "DEBUG.LOG" problem.

Anyway, in my case it was fine up until a few weeks ago, when (I assume) an update brought this "GUDE" log file back. Behavior is always the same: simply opening any file in PS results in this log file being created in the same folder the original file is in. Doesn't matter if the opened file is on a local drive or a network drive.

The creation of GUDE text files started happening to me today. Tried all of the fixes suggested online, nothing works.

The easiest is to open Photoshop before you start working on pictures, open photoshop, THEN doubleclick the picture(s) you need to edit.

That's the easiest way to avoid getting the gude-file in your picture folders.

Does Adobe really have such bad programmers that this giant company can't fix this bug?
Or, worse, are they just screwing us customers?

We work with deadlines every day and these log files are everywhere and are also attached to our picture deliveries to newspapers. Give us customers feedback now, please.

I thought it was a virus somewhere! No, it's just Adobe.

Tommy Kruse's idea worked when I just tried it - Open Photoshop, then open your image files.

I'm kind of wondering why the issue has persisted since April 2022, and why it all of the sudden tonight.

Just for the record this is [removed by moderator] on the part of Abobe... I think this is the easiest fastest way to "fix" this issue.

1. Open the folder containing your images

2. Double click and image

3. Right click on the newly created GUDE-LOG file

4. Click Properties then check the box next to Hidden

5. Click Apply then Ok

6. Repete steps 1-5 anywhere else the GUDE-LOG file appears.  You should only have to do this a couple times in different places depending on how many file types and locations you use.

This isn't a solution. All you're doing is hiding the files so you can't see them. The solution is for Adobe to fix the problem they introduced with this bug.

The worst about this bug for me is that when the files are located in the cloud folder for whatever reason many times the log file can't be synced. I'm getting a sync error notice with a ping every few seconds. I have to turn down the sound, which means I can't listen to music or other audio.

It just came to my attention again that @J453 wrote Mav 13, 2022 that this is being investigated by engineering. What have they done all those months?

Hi Kevin, I am also experiencing this issue. Your link goes back to the beginning of this thread, and I don't see a solution. I can't work through the April 2022 solutions post because I am on the current version of Photoshop, which appears to have differences in the Preferences panel.

I have the same problem... 24.1.1 version of Photoshop. January 23rd of 2023. I'm not seeing any working solution, even band-aid solutions like changing proxy settings don't work. This also makes synchronizing with Creative Cloud troublesome. I've had this problem since last month.

The solution is to NOT double-click files to launch Photoshop. Launch Photoshop first and then open files as needed.

@Lumigraphics clarify : that's a workaround, not a solution. Adobe have broken the most basic functionality of windows here - double-click a file to open its associated program.

I just noticed this happening when I double-clicked to open a PNG or JPG on my desktop. I haven't checked other folders.

I was using Photoshop 24.1.1.  I rolled back to version 24.1, and tried again but still got the file. Rather than try every version under 24, I rolled back to 23.5.4, and that fixed it.

I wouldn't say its broken, Photoshop still opens the file correctly. You are just getting an unwanted log file left behind. I realize that this is annoying but there is no data loss, opening files still works, and there is a simple way to avoid the problem.

This worked for me, too. Until Adobe comes up with a real fix, at least it saves the trouble of having to manually remove GUDE files each time they appear.
