P: Photoshop (v25.5.1 & v25.6) opening with black/blank home screen

Participant ,
Mar 18, 2024 Mar 18, 2024

Hey folks!

I was working with photoshop and illustrator, then I went to lunch and closed both apps.
When booting them up again, Photoshop "home screen" is black. I can't open recent files.

When I open a saved .psd, the file opens correctly.

Already updated to the 25.5.1 version.

The team has been informed about this. We advise against renaming UXP folders as various other Adobe Apps share this directory, which may result in unexpected behaviors & broken workflows.

Update: Follow the steps here to refresh caches for an essential Creative Cloud component.

Steps for Windows (Steps for macOS shared below - click 'Jump to reply')
  1. Quit Photoshop.
  2. Go to C:\Users\useprofilename\appData\roaming\adobe\ccx welcome
      Press Windows + R & type in - %appdata%\Adobe\CCX Welcome  &

Today I was going through my files deleting them to create more storage on my mac (macOS Catalina version 10.15.7). Soon after I tried to open up photoshop but it just came up with a blank screen (shown in the screenshot I took above). I'm currently using photoshop 22.1. I have tried to delete and reinstall photoshop and adobe many times and I have also tried to deselect use graphics processor and rebooted the application but still came up with the blank screen. Can someone please help, it would mean the most  🙂

If you restore your preferences using this manual method does it work correctly?

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#Manually

If that doesn't solve it, you can quit Photoshop and put the Settings folder back.

I JUST fixed mine after trying everything!

my home popup screen was completely blank, and if I tried to create a new document in the toolbar, nothing would happen.

i tried uninstalling/reinstalling, downloading older versions, changing the preferences to disable the auto home screen, etc.

I then saw a post saying to go to the "Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe/UXP" folder on mac or the "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\UXP" folder on windows by navigating but i had to do it manually since the 'go to folder' search button wasn't working for some reason.

Once I clicked into the application support folder, I then renamed the UXP folder.

It says to:

Change from UXP

to ~UXP

I did that and reopened photoshop and everything was magically fixed!!!

Not sure if this will help anyone because this post is 2 years old, but I hope anyone who does see will be able to potentially have some success! 🙂

This happened to me out of the blue today. Working with a new 2020 iMac with an AMD Radeon Pro5700 8GB card.

Tried everything above with no luck.

Was starting to wonder if it was an Adobe issue or a Mac OS issue. I work in dark mode  and while mostly everything on the screen is dark, as it should be, the Finder menu bar stays light no matter how I set it.

Otherwise, every other application, including all other Adobe apps worked fine.

I have only been able to solve it by "Resetting preferences on quit".

Seems to be okay now but I'm still concerned as I don't want to have to rebuild my preferences over and over again if this is to keep happening.

Bonjour,

Merci beaucoup

Hi,

We're sorry about the trouble with Photoshop while trying to open images. Would you mind sharing the version of Photoshop you're using along with your computers macOS version? Since when are you facing this issue?

You can try disabling the option to Use Graphics Processor from Photoshop by going to Preferences, then Performance. Once done, quit & relaunch Photoshop to check if that helps.

If the issue persists, you can try to reset the preferences of Photoshop using the steps mentioned here: https://adobe.ly/2Qzc0K3

Please backup your settings prior to resetting the preferences. You can check: https://adobe.ly/2vNz6FG

Let us know how it goes!

Regards,

Nikunj

Try resetting your PS preferences. It just appears that the home screen isnt showing:

I get the same, but you can still access the file menu. Also by right-clicking on an image and selecting 'open with' still works for me.. it's just an eerily blank front page

This should show the menu where I see what files I have recently opened, and the area where I would see the news regarding Photoshop, but alas, there is a bug in the program that prevents it from showing up. And no, "Auto show the home menu" does not fix it. And neither does resetting preferences. THe version I am on is version 25.5.1.
