P: PNG Images Opens with Distortion

From time to time, when I open a png image, it will appear as bright, distorted lines.

I have deleted all Photoshop preference files, uninstalled the app, reinstalled it and restarted the computer. Does not prevent it from happening.

When it happens, I can quit Photoshop and reopen it and the png appears correctly. But then it will happen again later that day or the next. Rinse/Repeat.

Very annoying. Please get better quality control Photoshop. CC seems to get progressively worse in terms of bugs.

Happens to me as well!
It must be a bug between PNG screenshots and photoshop, because it's fine with other apps.

However I found a solution.
If you open your screenshooted file with Preview and save it again to JPEG, it opens okay with Photoshop.

Hi Everyone,

Can you check something for me? Go to Window > Application Frame and see if that is checked. If it is checked, uncheck it (or vice versa) and then attempt to open your PNG again and let me know if it still appears corrupt.

I also have had this problem. I didn't have time to trouble shoot this issue and provide the system report. I have since reverted back to 19.0.1 because I had to get things done and also had the issue with the lasso tool with the precise cursor crashing the app. Two things of note otherwise I wouldn't have chimed in: 1. I am a version behind on my Mac OS   
2. I opened a file that had png's that were placed as links, these linked files looked fine at first but soon as I did anything to the file they all got messed up.
Don't know if this will help.

Having tried disabling GPU option in Performance prefs you mentioned. PNG opens fine in Preview/Quick Look.

Strangely enough, when I was trying to screen grab the effect with command+shift+4, repeatedly pressing the command key refreshed the screen with a new/different corrupted version with each keystroke

Aha! Having had a good run over the last couple of days I'm back into PNG problems!



I've just tried clicking Application Frame and opening the PNGs up again and it still does it...



I don't know if it's relevant but the glitching/degradation changes radically when cycling through things like 'Change Screen Mode (F)' and zooming in. Here is me cycling through screen modes...

 



and even getting back to the original screen mode and cycling through again it is different...





and zooming...

I also have this problem, have tried the above suggestions, and still random .pngs open with a glitch distortion. Any news yet on a fix? I have found the new version of CC to have a great many bugs...

Same issue with every PNG file I try and open. This is a horrible bug that needs to be fixed ASAP. Im running High Sierra 10.13.3 with Photoshop CC 19.1.0.

I'm also having the same issue Sys info attached, happens to all pngs whether opened directly, or dragged in. Reboot photoshop, temporarily fixes the issue. Soon starts happening again.

I have the same problem, it just happened and then i found this thread after a Google search. It happens sometimes when I work in PS files with smart Objects. I also think since the update.

I've been having this issue for about 2 weeks now on 19.1. Mostly, whenever I do a screenshot of anything, it saves as a PNG on my desktop. When I drag-and-drop it into Photoshop, the image almost looks like modern art (which some might appreciate), but I'd prefer to make money and continue with work. I have tried switching off the performance UGP - did nothing unfortunately. Adobe really needs to do an urgent update on this one. Below is a screenshot of what it looks like when I open the file....

I had been having the exact same issue on a brand new macbook pro, with 16GB of ram and a 2.8 GHZ i7 processor. 

I uninstalled my Photoshop, and after the reinstall, it hasn't happened again. I got some really awesome glitch images though! 

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has tried to do that, because I read someone experiencing the same issue after doing the same, but if you haven't already tried, that worked for me.

Hi Amy,

I'm sorry for the frustration over your pngs not displaying correctly, but from all the examples I've seen the files themselves shouldn't be corrupt, simply distorted. Are you able to work with extensions disabled? In all the examples I've seen that makes the distortion resolve.
