I also would like to add I noticed bacth processes that include saving and closing an image after do not save and do not close, it just keeps opening and processing images, so I am thinking this is also a save image issue.  I rolled over back to the previous version and it works fine and as usual there.

I have also notices an odd behavior in other Non-Adobe app and make me think if this could not be related to a recent Windows Update.  ImageGlass, used to be able to Save and Save as when cropping, but now, when you click on Save, it opens 'Save as' anyways, which didn't before.  Not sure if it might be related as I said, to a Windows update.

Thank for the workaround - for me at least - I remove the SAVE from the action - and just use CLOSE (and record the YES confirmation).   It works (for me).

Dear all,

It's interesting: I opene this thread on March 23. Today, I see 120 replies and I'm no longer the original poster. Are you merging threads?  Just needs to understand how this interface works.

By the way, thank you to Adobe employees to have investigated in and fixed the issue. That's what counts.

Regards,

Thierry

Hi TVN,

Adobe staff merged your thread from March 23 with an earlier one from March 22 into a Primary thread ("P: "). Other threads have also been merged into this one. They like to combine them for two reasons:

  • to see all the variations of the issue
  • to make one announcement to all who are affected when they have a fix

Most of the volunteers dislike it, as it is harder to see when folks have followup questions unless they tag us by typing @ and our user name.

Hello.

I edit multiple .PSD files for work. When I am done editing a series of .PSD files, I run a Batch command of a simple Action file I created to resize them all at once. I noticed today after updating Photoshop, that the Action file I created ends in an error in Photoshop- I even re-created the Action file to see if I could get a different result and it does not work. Photoshop gives me the error "Error: Could not complete the command because of a program error. (-1)". I can see that Photoshop will resize the first .psd file but then refues to save it and it spits out the error. I can run the batch with the errors sent to a "log" and at this point Photoshop will perform the resizing actions on the series of .PSD files but then I have to manually save each one- needless to say this defeats the purpose of running commands on multiple files. Any chance this will be fixed? I have too many files to manually resize each one like this.

@j.capp – More detailed, step-by-step info would help, including your version/build. If the issue is the save step, you are not alone:

P: Program error with actions that have save command in 24.3

However, presuming that this is a reproducable bug, until fixed, you could use a script to resize/save.

The Adobe Image Processor script is found under File > Scripts > Image Processor.

Then there is the Image Processor Pro script, which offers more formats and features.

Another option is the Picture Processor script.

While the Raw Image Converter is an unofficial offshoot of Adobe's Image Processor.

Finally, another script is Batch Multi Save.

Same issue here... anxiously awaiting the fix. It's a small thing, but really affects the workflow when editing thousands of images! Every keystroke counts.

Hallo,

ich nutze simple Aktionen, die den Punkt "Speichern" beinhalten. Sobald dieser Punkt erreicht und ausgeführt wird, erhalte ich die Meldung "Programmfehler". Ein normales Speichern daraufhin funktioniert aber. Windows 11/Photoshop 24.3.

Das Diagnostics-Plugin ergibt folgendes:

hi @matthias_der_burg this is a noted issue with newer PS versions. If you are trying to save and close, remove the Save command and use a Close action to execute the save.

Thanks for your quick reply. Your recommendation unfortunately does not work for me, because the action "save" isn´t the last point in my action.

Will this issue be resolved in near future?I use the save feature in my actions on a daily basis.

Meanwhile i will try to rebuild my actions.

I use a custom action to adjust for auto color, resize the image, save the image, and close the image. I have used this action for years. Today, I received the following error message:

"Could not complete the command because of a program error."

If I manually go through all of the steps, it works just fine. I keep getting the error message when I get to the step to save the image.

Photoshop was updated 12 days ago and no further updates are available.

Photoshop is version 24.3.0

I'm using Mac OS Ventura 13.3 on a 24 inch M1 2021 iMac

@michaels8853254  The temporary workaround is to run and work with the rest of the version except 24.3.
As far as I know, at least in "24.3", it doesn't work normally when commands related to batch and save are entered.

Hi, I've searched for solutions but to no avail. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

I have a bunch of actions I made so that I can batch place images in frame mock-ups. All of these mock-ups use smart objects. Recently, I've been getting an error whenever the action reaches the step of saving the smart object after it has been edited. A box pops up with "Could not complete the command because of a program error". I can save the smart object manually, no problem. I even found a workaround for the action by recording "close --> save". As in, closing the smart object and choosing 'yes' when it asks if I want to save the changes. Somehow, that runs smoothly within the action. I don't really want to use this workaround though, because it means changing dozens of actions I've already made. Anyone know why this error would occur only when saving smart objects while playing an action?

I'm using the latest version of Photoshop | on a PC | I've tried reverting preferences to default; it didn't help | I checked the GPU compatibility and it's fine.

Can you expand action so we can see action steps and try to replicate? Expand then screenshot steps before and after placing or replacing image.

You have step like on my screenshot and it does not work in batch process?

Suddenly my "actions" in Photoshop aren't working anymore, a notice pops up when coming to saving and closing the file saying couldn't complete command because of  a program error.. I've deleted and reimported my actions but unfortunately it didn't help. Has this anything to do with Photoshop and Bridge updating ?
