Adobe Forcing me to update from 2024? How do I stop this popup?

Photoshop 2024 is dead in the water for me.

If I open it and work on a file, it gets completely stuck after 30 seconds or so. Showing my desktop reveals a garbage little popup that insits I update to the current version. "Your device is running an old version of Adobe Photoshop. Update to the current version to enjoy etc." See attached.

I just updated PS 2024 to v.25.12 today in hopes that would solve the issue. Nope. Apparently, Adobe allows me to update my version of 2024...but not use it?

I do not want to run 2025 yet. It's 2 weeks old, and I've been burned way too many times before by brand new releases (after 30 years using PS, I know better.)

How do I stop this popup from interfering with my job?

I just tried tried searching for the bug report page, and could only find something called the "Wish Form"? But it doesn't give the option to ....do anything. There's no form on the Wish Form page.

The wheels have completely come off the bus at Adobe.

Thanks, Stephen. I did that on another thread. I also just spent a couple of hours with tech support on a remote connection. Jumped through all hoops to no avail.

So frustrating, particularly because I hadn't updated anything, knowing that every update has the potential to screw things up.

But I got this new popup rammed down my throat anyway, and have now lost a day's work because of it.

The AGS (Adobe Genuine Services), is the only thing I can think to work around. And the irony of that is just beyond. I really hope someone has a simple fix. Did tech support report it as a bug their end?

Not only am I getting it, it's preventing me from using Windows.

The stupid window pops up and won't go away. When it's up, Windows Explorer is unresponsive. I have to end the Photoshop task to use my computer.

Adobe CC has literally become ransomware at this point.

Here is what I see. Until I kill the Photoshop process my entire computer is hijacked and unusable. Tech support just told me to use the latest version then dissconnected, blowing me and my issue off.

I wish I had a job where I could just ignore my customers issues and get paid for it.

This is just shocking to me!, is it the same 'Adobe Genuine Services' popup?  Is it phoning home and then falling over? (I'm probably talking outdated rubbish, but there used to be a problem for me back in day with Creative cloud vs Windows firewalls/security etc causing all sorts of mayhem freezing)

I am 75 years old and speak truth and kindness.  This new Photoshop subscription model seems to enhance Adobe's  insistence to take away my personal choice (forcing upgrades for profit motives) and that is troubling.  It's a new business model and I hope Adobe will not censor the debate regarding it. The public is not happy.  Nor am I since I can't seem to prevent the incessant pop-ups and involuntary forced changes to my File Explorer's "Open With 2025 App" -- vs what I had until yesterday,  "2024".  Unsuccessfully, I've spent a couple hours trying to revert. Annoying to no end.  Perhaps "X" will have better answers than I find here.  (( Copy/Pasting this comment )).

Yes. And the NPCs at Adobe need to understand that this is by design. Their zeal to spit out semi-functioning updates necessitates that we keep older versions running for at least three months before the next update can be trusted - viruses and zero day exploits be damned. I have work to do and I can't waste a day fixing incompatibilities with my studio's tablets with every other update (spoiler - I always find fixes and it's an issue on the Adobie end 2/3 of the time).

How do  I stop this <profanity removed> pop up telling me to upgrade to a new version? It's cost me $$$ because it stops my automations and droplets from running. Beyond frustrating, who <profanity removed> thought this was a good idea? Corporate greed?

Hey there,

We're sorry for the pop-up issue in Photoshop. We have shared this with the product team. I am merging this thread with an ongoing discussion with a similar issue.

We need more details to help you. What version of Photoshop and Windows are you using?

Thanks,

Shivani

Please can you make it stop.
Adobe updates and removes functions which impact my workflow.

So I "choose" to use older versions.
I pay for my subscription and should be able to choose which version I use.

Does not seem like it, there has been no official response here and the issue still occurs. It may be because the issue was not tagged as a bug that it doesn't get the attention of staff, if it's just a discussion then it's between community members? Unsure. In any case, no fix.

This has just happened to me as well. PS 2024 is stable for me, and I don't want to use 2025. Plenty of people are using older versions not just because of preference but because they don't want to break workflows. Adobe is becoming more and more hostile towards their users, and it's a shame; I've been an Adobe loyalist for a long time, but this sort of cynical and hostile treatment is making me investigate alternatives, and I know I am not the only one.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm about to install the Affinity software I just purchased.

This window is not closeable and renders old photoshop versions unusable:

AL5E2E_0-1739199233841.png

I'm very aware of the software version I'm on, and am using it intentionally. This started popping up this morning after CC Update and now I cannot close it. I am on Rural Internet and cannot just update Photoshop every single time there's a release. This needs to stop. It pops up every time the application is opened (WIN 10) and cannot be closed (close button does not work or the window re-opens itself).

In fact, because this window has focus I can't even close the application in order to stop this. I have to close Photoshop via the Task Mamanger because this renders the whole application stuck in this state.

This also pops up randomly: It's not that this opens on startup, but randomly appears mid-work. So as I am halfway through a project this will open and force me to close the work mid-way through, losing all progress.

Please remove this useless popup that prevents you from using the last-most-recent version, this is insane.

UPDATE: A second window now has NO CLOSE BUTTON AT ALL and the only way out of this is to update immediatelty, rendering the currently-installed application totally unusable.

Second update on this. FYI this also occurs in most recent version of PS. So even after updating this does not get rid of the window, if you have a second install of an older version on CC it will STILL pop up even if you have the most recent version of PS open.

Very problematic popup that needs to be removed entirely.

The only solution I have found is to open photoshop whilst offline and connect to the internet after, so far so good!
