Changing brush size deletes layers

Explorer ,
Jun 03, 2024 Jun 03, 2024

Frequently:

  • When Editing a file with layers (which all my files have)
  • I select  the clone stamp tool
  • Press the right bracket "]" to make the brush larger
  • PS deletes two layers

Luckily, History records the deletion and I can select the step just prior to the deletions and I'm back in business. I saw the same behavior in the new beta.

I cannot replicate the issue on Windows with Photoshop version 25.7. What version of Photoshop are you using? It's possible that your input language is not set to English.

Hi Bojan,

Oops, I missed your response, sorry.

Thanks for your reply!

But what language version?

And what is the keyboard/OS language?

What have you done for all-purpose trouble-shooting so far?

Restoring Preferences after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved might be a good starting point:

ACK:

  • Resetting preferences didn't fix it
  • It says my graphics processor IS coompatible
  • Disabling the gpu made it better for a little while, but now it is happening again

What is does is to implement delete layer 3 times. Thankfully, History allows me to back out of that, but it is jarring and a pain in my workflow.    😞

Can you provide a screen-recording?

Can you reset the Keyboard Shortcuts to »Photoshop defaults«?

The shortcuts sre already set to photoshop defaults. Do I need to check either of the boxes ?

Richard_GGG_0-1718123265284.png

While trying to record the problem, PS offered to upgrade me to v2.5.1 - When I'd checked Crative Cloud earlier is has said I was using 2.5.9.  So that's a bit weird. I did the upgrade.

Anyhow, the new install re-enabled use of the GPU and at the moment I can't duplicate this problem.

SO, thank you for your efforts to help!  Hopefully this will be the end of it.

Fingers crossed,

Richard

Since the Backspace key is so close to the right bracket, perhaps your inadvertently hitting the Backspace key as well?

Photoshop version 25.6.0
Windows 11
English

I tried to reboot the computer, tried to reboot the program itself, checked all the hotkeys to make sure I didnt mess something up by accident. All my preferences are set to default.

All my preferences are set to default.

That is irrelevant, please actually restore the Preferences.

There is no guarantee it will resolve the issue but unless you actually do it you cannot be sure.

Thanks!

Does it always happen or intermittently?

Have you tried assigning some other shortcut else to the brush-size-increase? (Obviously not a proper solution but without better options …)

It happenes intermittenly and so far i see no logic in the way it happenes

I actually didn't try to assign another shortcut. Will try and see if that works, thanks!

I guess those are the harder problems to figure out …

Anyway, not using the bracket-key and instead using some other shortcut would not remedy the problem, just help avoid it for the time being.

But sometimes that’s the best one can achieve.

It seems to have stopped happening. I’m guessing they fixed it. I’m on the
