Is there a version of Photoshop that is more stable?

I had upgraded to v26 a while ago, but it crashed all the time, so I went back to 25.12. It also crashes frequently. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but the problem keeps coming back.
I don't need a lot of the new features, I just want a version that doesn't crash so frequently.
Thanks in advance for the advice
(running OS 14.5 on 2019 Mac Pro - I always hold off upgrading OS for a few months)

PS, crashes seem to happen mostly when I save a file

Does it seem to happen when saving a particular file, file type, or folder location? For example, do you still see the crash if you create a new, blank file and save it as JPG to your desktop?

Hi Brett, thanks for the reply. It is an intermittant problem so I can't really say. I work almost exclusively with PSB files so every time it happens, it's saving a PSB. I do export jpegs from time to time, and it hasn't happened with them, but saving to jpeg is only about 5% of the saves so it might just be probability that it only crashes with PSB.

Since it is PSB and thus large files, there is likely something memory related as the root cause. Are you prompted to submit a crash report by Photoshop and/or the OS?

Usually, but not always I think. Generally when I see those dialog boxes I click submit.
And yes, they are very large files, usually upwards of 10G. I s there a version of PS that would handle this better? I don't use any of the newer features so could use an earlier version if it meant fewer crashes

We don't have enough information to suggest whether or not a previous version would operate any differently. Generally, newer versions are better than older versions. There is certainly the possiblity that a new bug was introduced in a update, but this is less likely than there being bug fixes added to prevent this. Only crash reports will tell us anything with more certanty. There are two types of crash reports you may be asked to submit, one from the OS and one from Photoshop. When the Photoshop one appears you should also see the OS one. If you only see one report submission, it would likely only be the OS and we don't get those reports. In such circumstances, it would also suggest that the OS is forcing Photoshop to close and we would not have much to work with on our end. The main difference between the two reports is that the Photoshop report will have a separate field asking for your email address. Make sure you fill that part in, we can then pull your reports and get more information about what is occurring.

That makes a lot of sense. I'll re-post on this thread once a crash occurs, and upgrade to the most recent version
Thanks
