Liquify tool: “file is locked”

Hi!

I hope someone can help me. I have an issue with the liquify tool, which works fine for every photo but one folder from a certain date, it will not work. I get the error message that 'Could not complete the liquify command because the file is locked, you do not have the necessary permmissions, or another program is using the file'

I have checked everything, everywhere. Its not locked as far as i can see, the permissions are the same, its all the same as the other folders. I have restarted twice, logged out and back into Adobe and everyhing is up to date. I'm on a Dell Laptop, thats about all I know there.

Anyone have any idea, please?

What have you done for all-purpose trouble-shooting so far?
Restoring Preferences after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved might be a good starting point:

restarting PS helps, but you wont restart PS every 15-20-60 minutes when it
shows this error, especially when you are in big rush and every minute is
critical. This is software bug and it is in both Beta and stable version
for about a year.

I've had to restart photoshop. That works for awhile but it seems to
revert back to the error message again.

I recently started to get this error message when I'm in masking mode using the top "quick selection tool", but all others tools works fine. My file is not locked and it didn't happen to all files. Sometimes it works but after reopen the next time I'll get that error message.

Tried reset my preference & make sure all the files are not "read-only" and couldn't figure out why.

I'm experiencing the exact same issue. I've done everything that has been told to other people and it still happens.

Same one I get. With as many people getting the same command, I'm uncertain why more of an effort isn't being made to correct it on Adobe's end and not continue to ask what we've done to troubleshoot it.

Probably not because I have not experienced the issue myself and no absolute solution seems to have come up.

I previously got the same issue. Then, I found out when I turned off "Use Graphics Processor" in "Perfomance", I could use it normally, but yeah, it also slowed my flow in Liquify. Hope my solution useful!

What did you actually do for trouble-shooting before rolling back to 25.9.1?

I'm tired of the [abuse removed] at Adobe coming up with new ways to "improve" Photoshop.  I have been paying good money to Adobe for at least 25 to 30 years.  I want a Photoshop this is stable and works.  Some of us actually use Photoshop for our occupation, so fix this bug in Liquify pronto. For those of you in Rio Linda and Adobe, that means fast!  I'm 67 and I don't care what the excuse is... just get it done!  Nolan Conley

Well, let's see...  If Adobe takes in an average of $30 from I guessing around a million "renters" of your software, that should provide you with about $30,000,000 a month.  What have I done for myself?  I should be serving my clients with fine software.  Not spending my time troubleshooting.

What have I done for myself?

One needs to keep one’s own computer in working order, that’s not something one would want Adobe to do.

So basic trouble-shooting can become necessary every now and then when working with Photoshop (and other software) – so again: What have you done in that regard?

I had the same problem. Try this it might help. It did work for me.

Open image

Duplicate layer (it works on background layer too, but it's easier to see result)

Select person you want to edit with liquify (use object selection tool)

Go to filter and liquify.

Hope it works for you.

I have two different computers - a PC and a laptop, both are with nvidia videocards. PS24 and PS25 have the same problem as well as the beta version. It makes you a sort of upset when you load a ten+ photos to edit them one after another, but you have to close PS and reload it because liquify stopped working on 2nd or 3rd photo.

there is a sort of a fix - disable hardware acceleration in "perfomance" menu, bt if you are editing "heavy" files (1-2GB psd or more) you PC will struggle without a videocard. so you have to choose - have lags because a videocard is disabled or reload PS every time it fails.
