Since yesterday's update, can´t even open a jpg file. Always says: Could not complete your request because of a program error. I need to work.

I was having the problem of not being able to save the .PSD files "because of a program error".

I went to Photoshop, preferences, general, and clicked on "restart preferencees when exit", then OK, restart photoshop and it works now. hope its same for you 😉

This same fix resolved an unrelated issue for me! v23.4.2 was hanging whenever I tried to open a file. Kept getting a "working on it" notification, and then the app would hang. Just tried the "restart preferences when exit" approach and PROBLEM SOLVED! Thank you!

Even with today's 22.4 I keep getting the same old "Unable to save ... because of a program error"... I can hardly save any file.

This only happens with files I re-open from Lightroom. So new PSD file will get saved normally. Only when I re-open and edit them they can't be saved.

The save progress then is very jumpy, i.e. from 10% to 55% to 96% where it hangs for a moment to then fail.

I have to then save my file under a different name and re-sync my LR library which is really annoying!

I have attached both my error log and system config. So please fix this once and for all.

I started having this error today. I went through all the steps multiple times with no luck. It only ocurrs when I open a TIFF file from LR and try to save it. Does not happen when I open a RAW image and then save. Here is the system info-Thanks for your help!

I have updated to the newest version of Photoshop (actually uninstalled and reinstalled the newest) and this issue is still happening for me. Someone else on this thread mentioned turning off the Graphics Processor in the preferences, and this works most of the time to let me open photos in the program, BUT I literally cannot close the program even with that turned off. I have to go into the task manager and force the program to close because hitting the X in the corner tells me it can't due to a program error. 

By the way, the last couple of people that commented here were already on 22.4.1, so you should probably go back and reread their messages. 

I'm not sure how to get all of the information on their messages, but I'm on Windows 10 Pro and here's some info:

Hi, I'm also looking for an answer to the problem in this version. I am getting this error in the latest version "could not complete your request because of a program error" when I use canvas dragging option pressing the space bar and whenever I use over scroll options. Sometimes when I drag a photo to photoshop also this error appears. It started to appear when I updated the latest 2021 version. Do you have any idea to resolve this issue? Hope anyone can help.

If the issue persists, please roll back to the previous version of Photoshop using the steps suggested here: Install previous versions of your Creative Cloud apps

Please uninstall the latest version of Photoshop first & select the option to Keep Preferences prior to installing the previous version.

Have downloaded PS2021. I can get the main opening screen up but when I try to load a photograph I get an error message "could not complete your request because of a program error. Not only does that message apppear but I am unable to close the program either by the Xin the top right hand side or the close . the file  heading. The only way that I can remove the program is to turn off the the computer

I have the exact same problem on two computers (desktop and laptop). Tried to uninstall and reinstall. Error keeps coming.

This is a kown bug. Adobe is working on it.

It's now mid-2021 using v22.4.1and the problem persists. I was using Photoshop ok just last week. All of a sudden yesterday I go to open it and I get the program error. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling a previous version but to no avail.

Same.  Didn't even know it updated to 22.4.1, but yesterday it worked fine.  Even this morning I did a pdf export.  Since noon today, "Could not complete your request because of a program error."

Seems to happen every few months.  Can't work.  Grr.

I reverted to Photoshop 2020 with success, but since I was only learning Photoshop's 3D features and I no longer need that, I'll probably try returning to the updated version to see if it's stable.

Having the exact same issue today, completely out of the blue.

These people charging me $55/month (maybe more at this point) for something that doesn't even work - talk about ridiculous, maybe time to try and find alternatives that don't requite these sort of costs and headaches.
