Great fix, I'm using my personal laptop in my graphics A level because I hate the Apple Macs. I rely on my laptop to get everything done for me, even if the specs are very weak. No longer getting bombarded by errors now, thanks

I have 4GB of RAM what value do you think I should use. I have added 2000 for now and it works but the preferences are showing bizarre ram values and sometimes the app resets the work space. Don't know if this is because of the override.

Your value should be 4000.

Where would I be typing that to?

This works like a charm! Too bad Adobe didn't fix this after what must have been thousands of error reports.

I also ran into this error. I am in the fast ring for windows insiders. All of a sudden, Photoshop could not read JPG files...Corrupt?? If I could open the file and make edits, I couldn't save the file, "not enough memory". Trying to check performance preference only resuls in the "integer message" error.
I tried to uninstall, clean etc. all with not luck. I also did a clean install of 1709 Pro Windows. Reinstalled my Adobe applications and now everything is working correctly. I did a system image of the disk, and then turned back on Insider previews fast ring. I then got the update the system to "17123". After the install, with no image loaded I try and set preferences/performance an get the same error. I have to use task manager to kill the process. I also removed all Adobe products, used the Adobe Cleanup utility, and used regedit to remove all remaining references to Photoshop. I then did a new install of Photoshop. Same error same failure. I think this has something to do with the updates provided by Microsoft. My system image saved me from the whole reinstallation of all my Apps....

This answer does not completely solve the problem. I also ran into this problem, and it has something to do with the newer versions of Windows 10 available to those of us who are part of the insider program. Photoshop works fine on release 1709, but fails if you get updates from the Insiders fast ring. Someone smarter than I am needs to figure out if this is an Adobe problem or a Microsoft problem.
I went through the exercise of loading 1709 and installing Photoshop. It works. If I rejoin the Insider program for the computer and upgrade to the latest release, Photoshop fails to load the performance preference among other thing. To see if it was unique to the new releases from Microsoft, I reloaded 1709 from scratch. Clean system, nothing other than the OS. I let the system do all of the needed system updates and then proceeded to join the insider program again and updated the system to 17127. I the loaded CC and then installed Photoshop. Photoshop fails again. Something has changed in the Microsoft programming in my guess that breaks Photoshop. As a side note this problem only is occurring on 2 Surface Pro 4 systems. I have a Dell Inspiron 14 5447 system that seems to work fine.

I'm actually also part of the Windows 10 Insider program but am on the slow ring. I'm not sure this would make any difference but when I put Windows 10 up it was actually on a bare drive with no upgrade from 7 or other previous version involved. To tell you the truth, I think many people that have Windows 10 problems are a result of a migration path.
I have not experienced any issues with Photoshop CC 2018 since I manually adjusted my register entry

I had changed via regedit - but it is working now. I had forgotten that I had uninstalled Photoshop 2018 and was running Photoshop 2017. I uninstalled 2017 and reinstalled 2018 - and all is working now! THANK YOU!

Did the DWORD value you typed match your memory size? That is 24000 for 24GB 8000 for 8GB etc

I deinstalled all my Adobe creative cloud apps, used the CC cleaner tool, confirmed that all traces of Adobe had been erased from my computer, now I'm downloading Adobe Photoshop again. I'll let you know how it goes..... Thanks for your help.

My problem started as soon as my Photoshop app was updated from CS 2015.5 to CC 2018, which is not supported by my system. I have a very basic computer, and I only process photos occasionally. I only use Photoshop for simple tasks, like sharpening, changing exposure, correcting color, resizing, etc. That's it.
I uninstalled the entire Adobe Creative Cloud from the computer, and downloaded Photoshop CC 2014, and the same message appears whenever I try to change preferences from the performance window.....I've attached a photos that shows you the system. It worked fine before the update and I haven't been able to revert to the previous version.

THIS IS DIRECTED TO ADOBE.
I tried the PowerShell Script "fix."
Nothing.
I missed a deadline today and have 2 really pissed clients, probably get dropped by one, a new one.
I never miss deadlines.
This is [Profanity removed by moderator - please keep the language suitable for all ages] ridiculous.

Hi
You should really be directing this at Microsoft as this issue is caused by Microsoft's recent update 1803 nobody as far as I'm aware is having the issue on 1709
Adobe have a fix for the issue

Dave, I did try this and the problem persists, not matter what version of Photoshop I have installed in my system. I wish I could go back to the old version which is all I need. But no, it's not usable. Something was changed in my system and I have no idea where to go for help.
