Hi everyone,

We just posted an update that includes addressing this issue. You can get the update from Photoshop's Help> Updates...

Alternatively, you can go to this link to download an installer:
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4733

You should no longer see the application error on launch. Because the chipsets that throw this error don't support SSE2 instruction sets, GPU features and 3D features in Ps CS5 Extended will not work.

Regards,
steve

I would update to XP SP3. SP2 is no longer supported. SP3 fixed a whole bunch of problems in XP and is very stable. I would deactivate and remove PS from your computer though. Do a fresh install after update to SP3. See if that cures the problem.

Some other updater/installer on your system is running, and has told the OS that it is running -- blocking other installers/updaters from running until it completes it's work.

Rebooting may clear problems from updaters/installers which may have exited incorrectly and left the OS thinking that they were still in progress.

No updater you know about is running.

But the OS thinks another installer or updater is running.

Again, rebooting the system will normally clear out any remaining installers/updaters and allow other installers/updaters to run.

Well, everything is now working fine. Thank you for fixing it. I guess it took ages as you were fixing more than 5 bugs?

I am about to go on to a new PC too! I think anyone on an Athlon XP processor will need to upgrade soon, I have a feeling they are having a bluescreen stage, and it is really annoying now .

Thanks again,

Alex.

If it says an updater is already running - it is because the OS thinks that an updater is already running.

We have seen cases where malware forced that flag on to prevent other updaters from being run.

Thanks Chris trial Now working

I did a clean install of CS5 by uninstalling CS5 using RevoUninstallPro, then checking for Malware using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware that found 1 issue of malware. I then re-installed CS5 and running the patch worked sucessfully.

The CS2 to CS5 upgrade is top of the Birthday present list.

Thanks again.

Yes I see.

It is the processor which is responsible and not the graphics card or directX.

I'm still not able to update Photoshop to 12.0.1 😕

I followed these steps and fixed the problem of "Another instance of Updater is already running" but now when I try to update I get another error

http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/3120/errorjr.png

It says "Could not install some updates" or something like that.

Any solution?

PS: Sorry for my bad english

well the error message displayed in the scrteen

shot is specifically related to the graphic card configuration.

please note photoshop cs5 suppot only open gl graphic cards which are available from nvidia.

to check your graphic card configuration kindly run dxdiag in your run and then select display tab from the top.

That's COMPLETELY WRONG.  Please do not post things as "fact" that you know nothing about.
