Show Transform Controls check box missing

This is driving me crazy. I know I can always hit command T but I often found it easier to just click on the 'show transform controls' box on the move tool but now it's missing. I've tried experiementing with various preferences and I googled to see if anyone else had this issue but found nothing.

Anyone have any ideas here? Is this a change that Adobe made? (I haven't used Photoshop all that much in the past year or so ... )

Any help would be appreciated!

Maybe you have Enable Narrow Options Bar checked under Edit or Photoshop CC Preferences>Workspace?

If so, uncheck it and restart photoshop.

I'm on Windows 11, app is up to date. The "Show transform controls" checkbox is hidden behind this gear that I have circled. I've unchecked the "Enable Narrow Options Bar" -- it was already unchecked when I noticed the problem, I checked that "narrow options bar" option, restarted PhotoShop, unchecked it again and restarted PhotoShop again. And then took this screenshot.

With the new photoshop update they have moved it to the gear icon in that same field with a few new features, to quickly access the transform tool use Mac: command+T Windows: ctrl+T

Hope this helps.
