Strange Changes Made to Photoshop & Photoshop Beta Recently

Something has happen with Photoshop v25.3.1 within the last few days. It used to be that when you did a Select Subject and then Select & Mask you could edit the selected subject with the various tools provided. This is no longer the case! Oh, you can edit using those tools, but you cannot actually see what you are getting until you click OK and then view the subject on the transparent background. This is ridiuclous and I am wondering why it was changed???

Something strange has also happened with Photoshop Beta v25.4.0.2439. Until a couple of days ago, when you wanted to drag one image onto another you simply did just that. However, this is no longer possible. Now you must first "select" the image you wish to place onto another image and then copy & paste it. Why was this ridicuulous change made? That's not the way it is in Photoshop proper!

Has anyone else noticed these changes?

I'm using Windows 11 Pro, totally up to date.

No, I don't buy that as the reason.  I've been using Photoshop on this computer for years and these problems (as defined) just started three or four days ago on both Photoshop and Photoshop Beta.  They are two separate problems, neither of which would have anything to do with  Dual graphics.  But thanks.

You still have to eliminate it before you can progress to other fault finding.  Photoshop has never worked well with multiple GPUs

The clue is that the issue affects two completely different Photoshop versions. Can you correlate the issue(s) to Photoshop updates?  And if yes, is that beta or full release?  

I am using Windows 11 Pro as well.  Mine updated on the 13th December and completely broke my system.  Check this thread to see what I mean:

You still have dual GPUs which is always a potential problem. It remains the obvious place to start.

These things never exist in a vacuum. Latent problems may come to the surface because the environment changes. Trevor is correct that there was a major Windows update in late December, which apparently caused several things to break. With me it was a legacy application that I've been using - knowing full well it would stop working one fine day - and that Windows update was it.

The first issue - I can't replicate here - it works as it always has (tested on Windows 11 with RTX3090 GPU using Studio driver 546.33)

The beta issue (dragging between documents) is an acknowledged issue in the beta version (that is what beta versions are for - to test and highlight issues). Until it is resolved, then use the release version.

you cannot actually see what you are getting until you click OK and then view the subject on the transparent background. This is ridiuclous and I am wondering why it was changed?

It hasn't changed here, so the question is: why has it changed for you?

A screenshot of your entire Select and Mask workspace would help. Without that, I have two ideas:

• What setting do you have in your View dropdown menu?
  
  
  
• In the upper right hand corner of the Select and Mask Workspace, select Reset Select and Mask.
  

If it's not either of these, then strongly consider the time-tested advice about multiple GPUs from Experts to see if it solves your issue. If it doesn't, you can return to your current configuration. But it doesn't make any sense not to try it, does it?

Thank you for the tip Jane. It had absolutely nothing to do with my dual GPU setup (as I knew it wouldn't, since I have been using that setup on this computer for well over 2+ years). Common sense should have told anyone claiming to be an "expert" that actually took the time to READ what I wrote (that the problem started 3-4 days before Xmas).

So, what it turned out to be was somehow under Select & Mask > Properties > Preset
was changed from Default to Custom and that rendered editing of an image not visible.
