Add Smoothing Option for Lasso Tool

Community Beginner ,
Nov 15, 2024 Nov 15, 2024

The "Smoothing Option for Lasso Tool" would enhance the user experience by reducing jagged edges and creating more precise selections when using the Lasso tool in Photoshop. This feature would allow users to define a smoothing level, which interpolates the path of their freehand selections to create a cleaner, more refined outline.

Any selection (Lasso or otherwise) can be smoothed by choosing Select > Modify > Smooth or in Select > Select and Mask (where you can preview the result).

What I actually mean is a feature more similar to the smoothing option in Photoshop brushes, so we can avoid the extra steps along the way.

To get a smooth custom outline for a selection, the pro method is to use the Pen tool to create a path around where the selection should be. Adjust the path as necessary using the Direct Selection Tool (white arrow), then convert it to a selection by choosing "Make Selection" from the Paths panel flyout menu or by pressing Ctrl/Command+Enter/Return.

(Pro Tip: Name the path first in the Paths panel so it become part of the document. The default "Work Path" will disappear when a new path is created, and is never saved with the document.)
