Decontaminate colors option as a clipped layer

In advanced Photoshop tutorials on hair masking the problem of the edge color is solved manually outside the Select & mask window by adding a clipped blank layer and painting on it with a darker color. Why can't you implement this into the "Decontaminate colors" option? Now it just ruins the image layer (destructive workflow), therefore we can't adjust this mask later.
