I build wall mural "blanks" that serve as templates to be filled with artwork. Guides are an integral part of these templates. We use them show live area vs bleed, along with things like wall corners and ceiling contours.
It's maddening that I can't lock guides and save that behavior before handing over a template. I've heard "it's an application function" as a reason for the inability to save. All right, but then let me choose my default guide behavior in Settings. If I could set "locked" as our default Photoshop guide behavior, we'd eliminate the risk of guides getting screwed up accidentally.
An errant guide isn't such a big deal in the template itself, but our working mural files can run upward of 80GB, so fixing an accidental guide move can be a hugely heavy lift, and in some cases isn't even possible on any but our hardcore production workstation.
I've been able to save locked guides in Illustrator and InDesign since forever. I can't believe I can't in Photoshop.
