Select Text from Image

Hi Everybody,

The Select Subject feature in Photoshop is very impressive. It think that and gen fill are excellent stand-out additions for the software. I think that's really going to be Adobe's niche in AI is taking MidJourney or Stable defusion images and improving them through the use of advanced editing technology.

One thing that would be great is similar to Select Subject would be Select Text. Everybody's gunning for 3D and AI video, but text manipulation is is much more industrious for things like t-shirts etc IMHO. Being able to Select Text from an image would only hasten one's ability to work with creative.

Thanks for reading.

Add the ability to OCR a selected region to copy/paste?

I usually go through an OCR site to extra but if PSD can do this with ease with another side tool, it would be good.

People can use it with AI to get more ideas.

Apple's Live Text is interesting but I need to remove the text once selected. I imagine it's good for pulling copy from an image which is useful, but having an option in Photoshop to remove the text is what I had in mind. I should've clarified that earlier. Thanks for sharing though. I'll keep that in my back pocket.

Have you tried the object selection tool?

Yes, with very mixed results. Mixed enough that I don't really use it that often even for objects.

It astounds me that with all of their AI integration, Adobe has not added a simple 'one click' option in Photoshop to "Copy Text From Image."  I get that you can achieve this by copying it through other means - but the whole point of dropping monthly subscription fees to Adobe is presumably to avoid third-party apps and outside solutions as "workarounds" in order to make their product "actually work."

That said - if you are a Mac User -- here is the simplest way to copy text from any image.  It's built into the MacOS.

1)  Simply open your image with Preview (it shoud be the default on your Mac).

If the image doesn't open automatically in Preview, then Control+Right-Click on the file in Finder and "Open With" in Preview

2) Once the image is open,  highlight the text, click"Control+C" on your keyboard to copy the text

3) go back to Photoshop and paste it into whatever project you need with "Control+V"

Removing text entirely from an image?

Have you tried the 'generative fill' option?

Just open your image ...  then use the Rectangular Marquee tool to select the text you want removed. Then click 'Edit >> Generative Fill" Defaut will cover it with the background.  You may have to do it a few lines at a time to remove it from the graphic so it doesn't give you wonky results, but it usually cleans it up pretty well.

Wow.  Yes generative fill did a perfect job!  Having the rectangle very tight to the text seems to give the best results.  Thank you for this selection.
