Selection and Deselection

I'd love the option of turning off the automatic box that appears whenever I just choose a layer. That's new and annoying, as is the loss off being able to deselect an object by just double clicking. Double clicking is much more convenient than rolling over to the layers panel and clicking, and it's worked for about 25 years—until now. These are two more examples of "If it ain't broke don't fix it."

I think you are talking about the blue layer bounds. If you select the Move Tool and go over to the Options bar, you can disable it.

Also uncheck "Auto-select" on the left part of the Option Bar, and check "Show transform controls, and restart Photoshop.
