font menu is not appearing in tool bar when I use TEXT function

I use elements to modify the text on a psd image - it's a recurring task. Until recently a Text menu has popped up in bottom RH corner of the screen  - this has stopped happening. I can't find anything that suggests this is a function I've accidently switched off - and ideas why this function should suddenly stop working. I don't want to reinstall or upgrade because last time I did this it was a nightmare.
