Help to keep crop size

I have been using photoshop & elements for many years now. I recently bought elements 2024 & after finding information on the internet, I had it woking good. Then I got a new pc, downloaded & installed elements 2024, & now I cannot make it keep my crop settings. If I want it 2000 px X 3000 px, I have to type that in with every pic.  I have always been able to save that in the past, or at least it always kept it after saving crop ratio. However, now there is no crop ratio, only photo ratio & I want to use a specific ratio without typing it in every time. Also I can not make crop stay on virticle every time, if the picture is landscap, the crop automatically goes to landscape, which I have always been able to keep that as well. Can anyone help please? Very frustrating!

    @steve_9335 did you try resetting the preferences, as suggested earlier?

     

    Before doing that, you can also try resetting the Crop Tool.  Click on the hamburger dropdown menu at the lower right of the workspace and select Reset Tool from the menu.

    I am not sure that I fully understand what the real problem is here.  And perhaps neither do you.  How are you displaying the 8x10 picture that looks tiny on your new 4k monitor?   And why do you want to crop an 8x10 (4:5) photo to 3000x2000 (3:2)?  What are the pixel dimensions of your 8x10 photo?  The dimensions of a photo in inches only has relevance to printing it, and has almost nothing to do with screen resolution.  Pixels have no fixed dimension.

     

    I have a regular HD monitor (1920x1080).  If I open a high resolution (8640x5760) photo with a 3:2 landscape aspect ratio and select Ctrl+0 (fit to screen) it will look like the following screenshot:

     

      

     

    The magnification of the image will be 11.2% of the actual pixel size.

     

    I can use the Editor's Image Resize command to change the pixel dimensions to 3000x2000.  At the same zoom level, the image will now be substantially reduced on screen:

     

     

    But, if I hit Ctrl+0 again, the image will appear on screen exactly like the original pixel size image, although now the zoom level will be 32.2%.  (I am ignoring the fact that there will be a minor lowering of quality in the image).

     

     

    If I now want to display the photo at 100% zoom, I hit Ctrl+1 and get the following display:

    The 2000 px x 3000 px was just an example. My problem is that photoshop cropping tool will not keep a specific dimentions unless it is one of the dimentions in the list in the crop tool. I just want it to keep the size on the crop tool so I dont have to resize everything after I am done.

      I've been having a similar problem with PSE '23.  I found that if I enter the crop dimensions in pixels and don't enter a value for resolution it remembers those settings.  If I set the dimensions in inches it forgets and I have to re-enter the dimensions for each photo.  I have no idea why that worked, but it did.  Maybe using different units would work for you.

        On my machine, the Elements 2024 crop tool behavior is the same as it has always been.  The crop ratio and orientation remain sticky.  I have just tried your 2000x3000 px ratio on both portrait and landscape photos and I have opened and closed the program several times.  The ratio always remains until I change it again.

         

        The only thing I can suggest for you is to reset the preferences.  Go to the Edit>Preferences>General tab and click the Reset Preferences on next launch button.

         

        As for videos and tutorials, you may be looking at those for the full Photoshop, not Photoshop Elements.

        I can keep settings in the prespective tool which is in the cropping options, but as far as cropping, it will not keep any custom sizes. Prespective tool can crop, but it does not keep an aspect ratio. I am trying to take some old photos & crop & resize to a bigger size. I just got a new 4k  monitor & what was an 8 x 10 picutre, looks tiny on this monitor & I wanted to make them larger while cropping without typing it in with every picture. If I use the preset provided, they will keep each time, but even the largest preset is too small for what I want.

            Just wanted to add. I have looked at many vidoes & web pages that told me how to do it, but the vidoes I see do not look like my version. They tell me to use crop options under the file menu, but I do not have that. Every time I see someone showing me how, my version does not have what they tell me to do.
