How to apply changes to multiple files in Photoshop Elements 2025

Hello,

Please help. 🙏

I have photoshop elements 2025.

I try to batch processing RAW files, but want to edit the photos myself using "quick" mode, and not "advanced" or the limited options which are set under "actions".

How can I edit RAW file, change it by using "quick" mode, and apply the same changes to multiple files?

"Automated tools" is grayed out.

Thank you!

Correct answer Greg_S.

You could be doing batch edits of all those features in ACR.  For me, that is the easiest place to make those kind of edits and they are far superior to anything you can do in Quick Edit.  If you are shooting raw files, why would you want anything else?

Do you need instruction on how to apply your edits to multiple files in the ACR Editor?

You have to be in Advanced Mode to use Process Multiple Files (and many other features).

It's not clear what you need help with.  I have given you very precise instructions for selecting raw files and opening them in the Editor (where you can make whatever edits you want in any mode).

If you need help with saving multiple edited files from the Editor, and converting them to jpeg format, you can do the following:

  • Make your edits to multiple files in the Editor
  • Go to File>Process Multiple Files
  • In the dialog, choose Process Files From: Opened Files
  • Select a destination folder for the saved files.  (Using this workflow, you cannot save the files back to the folder where the original raw files are stored.)
  • Use the Convert Files to: options to save the files as jpegs or whatever other available format you want:

Thank you Greg,

"Process multiple files" is greyed out.  Also "Automation tools" is greyed out and can not be used.

Thank you

Any way to solve the grayed out thing?

Are you using the Organizer?  If so, select in the grid all the files you want to edit, and press Ctrl+I.  If you are not using the Organizer, open the Photoshop Editor and use the File>Open . . . dialog to select multiple files for editing.  If you are selecting RAW files, this will also open the files in the ACR Editor.

Once you are in the ACR Editor, you will see a filmstrip of your photo thumbnails.  (By default this will be down the left hand side of the screen, but you can also choose to view the filmstrip on the bottom.)

Use the Shift or Ctrl keys to select all of the thumbnails in the filmstrip.  (You can select less than all, if you want.)  The first selected thumbnail will appear in the workspace and will have a white border.  The other images that will be affected by the edit will have a grey border.

Use the sliders on the right to make your exposure, color, sharpen, etc. edits.  Make sure that the Basic heading is expanded to display the controls.  The edits that you make will be applied to all of the selected photos.  In the screenshot below, I have lowered the saturation so that the image is Black & White.  That adjustment has been made to all of the selected photos.

You can then select each thumbnail and make individual adjustments to each one:

If you want to further edit the files in the main PSE Editor (in any mode) and/or save your edited files as jpegs for example, select all of the files in the ACR filmstrip and click the Open button at the lower right of the screen.

If you simply want to keep the edited files as raw files, click the Done button.  The raw files will remain untouched but your edits will be saved in an .xml file (also known as a sidekick file).  If you open the raw file again in the ACR, the edits that you have made will be displayed and the adjustment sliders will return to where they were when you last closed the file.

Thank you Greg for the very detailed answer!

I tried to edit multiple files as you mentioned in ACR.

It works, but I have two problems;

After opening the multiple edited RAW files in Photoshop, how do I save the batch as Jpg. files at once?

Yet, I find editing with ACR  limited compared to Photoshop.  For instance, it is impossible to make the photo brighter then 100% changing "shadows".

Thank you,

Yaron

Thank you Greg.

I never used ACR, and will be happy to learn how to use and open it from Photoshop Elements, and apply to multiple files.

Thanks
