Is there a way to disable photos being automatically opened in Photoshop Elements

I have had earlier versions of Elements but have never had this issue. I don't store my photos on Photoshop Elements but when I open any photos that are stored on my computer, It opens up Photoshop Elements and displays the picture there. I want to be able to just open a picture to view and not have it come up in my editing program. Is there something somewhere that I can disable or change the setting on? Thx

That would be done with a setting within your operating system.
