Having purchased a new Canon R7, I am now not able to upload RAW files to Elements as it states format not recognised. Is there a fix for this or is Elements now useless for my needs?

Elements 2020 and later can be updated to the latest ACR version (15.x).  However, you have to follow the instructions set out in this HelpX article precisely.

Note that the name of the plug-in file you have to copy from one directory to the other is Camera Raw.8bi.

If you have Elements 19 or earlier, you can use the free Adobe DNG converter to batch convert your raw files to the DNG format which can then be used by your version of Elements.

@Bill277181399v28, for Elements 2022 (which is version 20), you have to copy the Camera Raw.8bi file to the following folder:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 20\File Formats

The slightest difference in the process will make it aborting.

Your other solution be to download the free Adobe Dngconverter, which is an independent program, not a plugin. It will batch convert a whole folder of your proprietary raw files to the open DNG raw format which your older PSE can open and edit.

@Rosee , what version of Elements are you using?

Your camera requires ACR version 14.4.  You may have a plug-in file installed in the correct directory, but what version is it?  Click on Help>About Plug-in>Camera Raw and a screen will open with the ACR version number.  If you have any version lower than 14.4, you need to follow the directions that have previously been given in this thread.

My photoshop elements versinon is 2022 and the ACR version 14.1. I tried to follow the instructions to update ACR version to 14.4 a couple of days ago. It didn't seem to work. After downlowding the file, executed, and ACR is still showing 14.1.
