ASV file extension conflict with another program
I installed Finale 2014.5 (a music score editing program). Then I installed Photoshop Elements X! pro.
Now, each time I run Finale, I get an error message which basically says that PE has been assigned the .ASV extension amd asks if I want to switch the assigned extension to Finale?
If I say yes, Finale then runs but the next time I use it, the same err msg box comes up.
according to Finale help desk:
Finale uses .ASV as a auto-save file.
Furthermore, "What you'll need to do is to specify file extension associations for Windows.
If you follow the steps in this article I found, it should allow you to permanently adjust this and keep that window from popping up:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/18539/windows-7-change-default-programs
The auto-save function should still save, it just may not be able to pull up auto-saved files without assistance unless the .asv extension is specified to be registered to Finale."
What I need to know is this:
What exactly will change in PE XI Pro if
I change Win7 default program for ASV files,
from the current PE to Finale?
I have been lucky enough to have had my chat mode escalated to a Tech who understood what I was saying. According to the Tech, the ASV files are used by some of the Adobe CC series, but not by Photoshop Elements, (which I am using). An additional bit of information was that I have PE 15, not PE 11. My problem remains after I used the above cited MS suggestion to assign .asv and .asvx to Finale, and restart computer. I will discuss this with Finale Tech.
