Hello

I am running Phoroshop 2020.  Works great except my brush tool erases and my eraser tool paints.  Got me stumped.  Any suggestions for correcting?

Check your Tools panel and tell us what colors you have for the foreground and background swatches. Any chance white is your foreground color? That's the first thing I would look at, even if it's just to rule it out. Type "D" to reset your default swatches.

Hi Michael,

That shouldn't be happening, could you please try resetting the preferences of Photoshop and let us know if it helps?

Note: Make sure that you back up all your custom presets, brushes & actions before restoring Photoshop's preferences. Migrate presets, actions, and settings

Regards,
Sahil

Hi Sahil

This might have worked, but jen-e's solution below looks like the correct fix.

Hey, Jan-e,  my foreground color was set to the beige I color selected. When I switched foreground to black, it worked. When I went back to the correct color it continued to paint in white. Even though the beige remained the foreground color.

Change Mode on top left to Normal is for brush and Clear is for an eraser. Here is your fix:
