Can't drag files into PP timeline, someone please fix this bug!!!

This happens way too often.  I try to drag a video file into my timeline from a finder window in Mac and it bounces back to the finder, refusing to go onto the timeline.  I'm then forced to import it into the project and THEN drag it into the timeline.  It happens on projects where I was able to drag video and/or audio clips onto my timeline and then it just randomly stops.  I'm tired of it and it's happened over the course of at least 2 years.  Fix this.  It's a blocker.

Hi @scm28,

What version of Premiere are you using?  What type of computer are you on?  What kind of video files are you trying to drag in?  I wasn't able to repro this with a quick test.  Please give us some more information to work with. How do I report a Problem?  Sorry for the frustration, and thanks for reaching out.

@Rach McIntire I always have the latest most updated version of Premiere Pro 2025 as I keep creative cloud running almost all the time and I'm using a MacBook Pro with M1 chip with the latest updated OS 15.6.1.  This drag and drop problem has occurred over several Mac OS updates and several PP updates.  It just stops working at some point in my editing and the file I try to drag into the timeline "bounces" back into the finder window.  I've tried restarting Premiere Pro and that doesn't help.

Are you dragging a clip to the timeline from your finder or from a bin within Premiere Pro?

When you drag the clip into the timeline is it showing you a hand with a circle and a slash through it "no"?

And another crucial data bit, what are your Source and Track targets set to on the involved timelines? Or ... have you set the targeting on those timelines?
