Latest version unstable - seems to be linked with a memory / RAM issue?

Running the latest version of Premiere Pro (as of 9th September 2024)

Cannot get further than two or three edits before the software freezes then crashes. Looking at Task Manager, it reaches a peak level of memory useage that sticks and goes no further. For example, 700mb useage which freezes and doesn't go up or down before Premiere Pro crashes and closes.

I did wonder if the RAM was bad, 128GB of Patriot Viper Steel DDR4, so ran the memory checker on Windows and tested each piece. No issues reported, and no improvement when I moved them around and reseated them.

Also, checked the Crucial M2 SSD card...again, no issue.

Rolled back Adobe Premiere Pro to 2024.0 and all problems gone. Stable and fully functioning and have been working with it all day - no issues.

So, this latest version seems to have an issue when manageing / accessing memory which makes the software unusable. Can't see any reason why and nothing I tried or did while using the very latest version worked. Only by rolling back did it resolve completely.

Therefore, I'm not planning any further updates until there is some understanding or resolution from Adobe.

Thanks

Many thanks for the feedback. I'm certainly on board with the memory leak theory...especially as it's not a common issue with this build. I did clear the cache and start a new session but that didn't help. It's so strange because rolling back a couple of versions changed everything...literally no issues at all; I just can't get the latest update to work without crashing. As a precaution, I'm going to take this opportuntity to replace the RAM with 128GB of brand new Corsair Vengeance as that's always been so reliable in the past. I still can't full rule out issues with the RAM itself, so I think it makes sense to start there. I'll keep you posted!

Cheers!

As far as troubleshooting advice goes, @OrangePlanetPictures, it suspiciously sounds like a memory leak issue. I have seen some people solve a problem by importing your existing project into a new one. As @R Neil Haugen suggests, consider also deleting the media cache from the Reset Options dialog box, which is accessible by pressing Shift at launch. I hope the advice helps.

Thanks,
Kevin

Not having any such problems, so I can't replicate. And not seeing a lot of similar complaints. Although some users naturally are having issues of various kinds.

When you updated, did you clear your cache files before working? That sometimes fixes the odd stuff like this.
