P: Morph Cut causing Premiere Pro to crash every time. Help!

Community Beginner ,
Jan 20, 2024 Jan 20, 2024

I have been using the Morph Cut effect in my edits in Premiere Pro for years, with no real problems.

Since I installed Premiere Pro 2024 (24.1), every time I bring a morph cut to a sequence, the program crashes. I've tried multiple different ways, like creating a completely new sequence and pasting the shots there and then using morph cut, and nothing works.

I've decided to roll back to Premiere 2023 for now. I even tried using the latest Beta version, and it still crashes.

Does anyone have a solution?

Morph Cut seems to work fine in the Beta version of Premiere. If I work on something that could do with some Morph Cuts, I'll leave them till the end of the edit and make a separate Beta project just to apply the Morph Cuts.

Also opening any project with a morph cut in it crashes instantly. Unfortunately, it's a transition I use a lot. 😫

I am on with support now. First, this is a known issue and they are working to have it fixed in the next release.

I was asked to download beta 24.3 and test, but had the same result: Instant crash with morph cut.

I was asked to rollback to 24.0, but declined because I cannot delete the current version and settings.

I was given a link to download 24.0 that will simultaneously install, and gave it a go. SUCCESS

(Mod note: Link from support is removed. Please do not share this link, it is for your use only).

I'm not sure how simultaneous the install was as 24.3 seems gone, but everything seems to be working.

I was asked not to update the app until the next release.

Hope that helps someone.

Cheers,

Charlie

If it's crashing on opening the project,  that project has corruption in it.

Create a new project. In MediaBrowser select the previous project, and Import the assets of that project. If would import the sequences one at a time, as a corrupt sequence might be the issue here.

Remember both project files and sequences are only metadata files ... data about data.

I have the same issue. Zero crashes until I tried morph cut. I dont believe the project is corrupt. its morph cut that is causing the issue. I'm trying to put on a nested clip. the nest is 4k footage. but I have the proxy button on

Sorry, the first two replies were meant for R Neil Hayden. But for some weird reason, each time I reply to his message, it drops on yours.
in any case I installed the 2023 premiere pro back again, and the morph cuts works without any crashes.

Hi there!

Sorry about the crash, and thanks for sharing more information. Screen recording may cause performance issues because of the variable frame rate. You can try transcoding your screen-recorded footage by using HandBrake and see if that helps. Also, could you reset preferences and check if that brings any change?

Let us know.

Thanks,

KR

More about VFR:

Please use the free MediaInfo and post a screenshot of the properties of your media in tree view:
https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo

Many users are having issues with VFR. If the file is variable frame rate, use Handbrake to convert to constant frame rate before importing into Premiere Pro:
https://handbrake.fr/downloads.php
Here is a tutorial:

Shutter Encoder may also be used to convert to Constant Frame Rate:

Had the same problem. Rolled back to 24.0.3 (in Creative Cloud, select the three dots under Premiere in Apps, other versions, install 24.0.3) and problem gone. 24.1 is bugged.
