Option + Arrow Keys Not Working

Explorer ,
Aug 20, 2025 Aug 20, 2025

On MacOS, you can normally navigate through text one word at a time by holding option and pressing the left and right arrow keys. This functionality is broken in the latest version of Premiere Pro (25.4). It still works fine in all other apps, and it worked in all previous versions of PP, so this is definitely an issue with the latest version of PP.

For example, when editing the name of a sequence, I can't jump between words by holding option and pressing the left and right arrow keys.

Edit 1: This only seems to affect the Project panel and bins. I can use Option + Arrow keys in other areas of PP, such as transcripts in the Text panel.

I have, yes.

The issue is also replicable on another computer, also running the latest version of PP.

Hello,

After the recent Premiere Pro update, I noticed that the Option + Arrow key shortcut no longer works as expected when renaming a sequence. Previously, this allowed the cursor to move word by word, but now it only moves character by character.

This feature was very useful for quickly editing sequence names, and its absence slows down the workflow. Could you please confirm if this is an intentional change or a bug?

Thank you.

This is a MASSIVE new problem. Introduced in the latest or next-to-latest version of Premiere is a bug that will drive me off the platform if not resolved quickly.

Alt+arrows used to properly “jump” across text in all text input areas in Premiere. If you had a file name like: ABC0123-sequence_title-v01, and your cursor was at the very end of the input area, and you pressed alt+{arrow left}, Premiere would appropriately JUMP to the dash and stop. If you tapped it again, it would go to the next dash, and you could hold SHIFT+ALT+{arrow right} to very quickly only select “sequence_title”. This is just one example. Alt+{arrow} as a default in all operating systems JUMPS over underscores and STOPS at dashes. CMD+{arrow} still appropriately jumps to the start/end of the line.

Premiere used to respect this and it no longer does, and it makes using it UNBEARABLE. This single bug will push me to Resolve if it is not resolved. The entire naming structure across mine and many sister organizations is based on properly using underscores and dashes and being able to quickly manipulate names and titles in Premiere and all other applications using the same system. This must be fixed! 🙏

Thanks you for your attention to this matter.

@jamieclarke  could we also possibly report ctrl + delete not deleting whole words either, or ctrl+shift+arrow not doing anything when using text layers - it should highlight whole words, pretty please haha, it drives me crazy (at least on windows, idk if it works on mac or not)

Thank you, Jamie! How is it possible a version of Premiere shipped with such a blatant issue!? Glad it's being worked on... can we expect a resolution soon? Seems this was first reported a MONTH ago!? 🤦‍:male_sign:
