P: Premiere Pro - Type Tool and Captions

Hi guys,

I'm having trouble with using the Type Tool and the Captions within the Text Panel.

This has happened in the past couple of days or at least, it's when I have noticed.

When the Type Tool is selected and when I click in the Programm Panel, like usually to type text nothing happens.

A red line now appears at the top and across the said panel. I am still able to drag a box but nothing happens after that.

Likewise with the Text panel and the captions. When I create a new caption track, and create a caption, I am able to create it and type in it, but nothing appears.

I've tried uninstalling the 25.1 version and re-installling - Nothing.

I've tried installing the 25.0 version and the same problem - Nothing.

I've tried creating a new project and opening an older project - Nothing.

Lastly, I have also tried turning my Mac off and turning back on - Nothing.

In the 24.6.4 version, it works but ideally I'd like to be using the most updated version.

I would appreacite any help, screengrab provided.

Cheers

Felipe

I'm having an issue where any captions I generate using the transcript/caption tool don't show up in the program monitor at all, regardless of if I've imported an SRT file or created them with the transcription tool built into Premiere. It had been working previously; the only thing I can think of that's changed is I updated Premiere recently, and I had updated a plugin.

I've attached a screenshot so you can see my caption settings.

I'm on an Apple M4 Max running on Sequoia 15.7.2 (updated from 15.6.1 where I was when the issue started; I had updated to try and fix it)

I've tried wiping my preferences, cache for Premiere & AE, rolling back my version of Premiere, updating Mac OS, creating multiple new projects, making new caption tracks, turning them on and off, restarting my machine, reinstalling the entire Adobe Suite, and uninstalling all plugins.

I'm at a bit of a loss for what to do and would love some advice if anyone has any thoughts.

Hi @ryan_1368 -  Thanks for submitting your bug report. We need a few more details to try to help with the issue.

Does this happen with all fonts or only your "GT Haptik"?

Which plugin did you update?  Have you tried to uninstall the plugin?

Sorry for the frustration.

@nicha36387871j2fe please please report back if you get a chance to verify this in a current beta build. We are still looking for more confirmation that the problem is resolved.

1. Premiere Pro 25.5.0
2. Macbook Pro M1, MacOs Tahoe 26.0.1

After updating macOS, all text layers stopped displaying — they show normally in the timeline but not in the playback monitor or final export. I’ve already cleared cache files, reinstalled the program, tested across all existing projects, and even created brand new ones, but the issue persists. When adding new text, the layer appears in the timeline as expected, yet the playback monitor shows nothing except a strange red line, which I’m not sure is related. Everything worked fine before the macOS update.

@nicha36387871j2fe,

This is a Mac only bug that may have a fix in the Beta version. It is a very long thread that suggests the problem lies with Adobe fonts. Your post may get moved to that thread.

The thread is here:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-bugs/p-premiere-pro-type-tool-and-captions/idi-p/15171576

@Theresa Rostek,

Thanks for checking! I hope this is the last this symptom shows up from whatever bug - too confusing! lol. I suspect that this looked very different from the programming side.

I was referring to bug 3. Its symptom distinction was that the typed character would execute and at the same time, its shortcut would execute.  Demonstrating it involved selecting the Text tool before editing in Program Monitor.

In any event, I checked Beta 25.6.0.74 and Release 25.5.0, and Bug 1 (direct manipulation deletion) is fixed.

And Bug 2 was moot after removal of the Reference Monitor.

Hi @Stan Jones,

I meant the original bug reported with text not showing up in the PgM. Is that the one you checked in 25.6.0.64 and are still seeing the issue?

Bug 3 has been fixed, I will go update that thread now.

Edit 9/30/25 to post: This post was to the wrong thread. Sorry for the confusion.

Original post:

@Theresa Rostek,

I'm not sure which bug you're addressing. Bug 1 (deletion of direct manipulation element) and Bug 2 (reference monitor open) were previously fixed. What I call Bug 3 started here, but is now in its own thread:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-bugs/shortcut-keys-overriding-while-typing/idi-p/15382381

I think that separate thread is preferable, because the symptoms are slightly different. I, of course, do not know the underlying cause.

In any event, it is NOT fixed in PR Beta 25.6.0.64 (9/12/25), and there is no new PR Beta update so far today. I had not tested in the new PR Release 25.5.0, and I just confirmed that it is present there (as expected).

Hi all,

A fix is available to try in Premiere Pro beta starting in 25.6.0x61. Please give it a try and let us know if it's working as you expect.

Many thanks,

Theresa

Hi everyone,

Can you let us know if you're still seeing this issue in 25.4? Also, please let us know if you had unsynced all of your Adobe Fonts recently.

Thanks!
Theresa

Hi @30931258pxa0,

I've merged your report with an existing thread. Sorry you're hitting this bug. We've not been able to reproduce the issue in-house, but there have been some reports in this thread that removing all Adobe Fonts fixes the issue. Please give it a try and let us know if it does solve it for you.

If you remember what was going on in your project before you hit this bug (or perhaps how many fonts you have synced before you unsync them), it would be very helpful for us to try to pinpoint where things are going wrong.

Thanks,

Theresa

Hi @DANILLO W_ROZENO9535,

Sorry you are experiencing issues. What exact version of Premiere Pro are you on and can you provide any additional hardware and OS system specs? Please see: How to Report a Problem.

Does it sound similar to this issue?

Hope we can help you soon,
Dani
