P: Premiere Pro v.25.4 'eats' memory

Contributor ,
Aug 18, 2025 Aug 18, 2025

  Hi Adobe,
I haven't contacted you in a long time....first let me praise you, you can see that you are working hard and every iteration of Pp is better and better....until this v25.4...the problem is that the new version 25.4 'eats' memory....
T he system is Win 11 pro, freshly installed with all updates (24H2 - Os build 26100.4946),
graphics driver (580.97-desktop-win10-win11-64bit-international-nsd-dch-whql)...
deleted (Media Cache Database, Media Cache Files, deleted rendered files from Adobe Premiere Pro Video Previews) from previous renders
Kreativ cloud installed.....mostly, when I render a video on the timeline the memory goes up and up until it reaches 64GB, as much as I have and everything stops, even the OS...must restart the system(hard, everything is frozen)...so I was forced to restore v.25.3 and the same I rendered the project, delet (Media Cache Database, Media Cache Files, deleted rendered files from Adobe Premiere Pro Video Previews) and...
memory does not exceed 32GB or 48% of memory usage....

my configuration;

RTX 3090TI 24GB
Ryzen 9 3950X
64GB memory
1NVMe M.2 for Os
1NVMe M.2 for video
1NVMe M.2 for cache....ect

thank you very much and all the best

Hello! After the latest Premiere Pro and Media Encoder updates, my RAM started to overload while outputting video to my computer. Everything used to be fine, but now, during the withdrawal process, the RAM load increases to 200 GB and the project crashes.

So we are told to revert to a previous 25.? version to have a good working version of pp. Projects saved in say 25.4 will they open in 25.3? I thought they would not open once you upgraded and then saved that project in that newer version.

It's only major version changes that won't open in a previous major version ... we are in the 25.x series now, last year was the 24.x, right?

You can't open a 25.x project in a 24.x Premiere, but you can always open a 25.x project in any 25.x version.

Awesome! That is good to know. The new bug in 25.4 using the track select tool to move hundreds of clips is killing me and so time to revert ASAP:)

Same. I have like 100 video orders to finish and now its taking me even longer to force quit, reopen, export etc. The previous version literally had no issues.... Wish they would stop breaking something that works.

After I updated to Media Encoder 25.4.1, began experiencing RAM memory issues. Despite reasonable restrictions for Adobe apps memory allocations, the encoder fills up my entire laptop memory and crashes it. I render relatively simple and short videos (under 15m) with a few text animations (nothing fancy) with hardware encoding (stable Nvidia studio driver for RTX5090, 64gb RAM, H.264 video output). I rolled back to v25.3 and the issue disappeared. Can you look into it? Thanks!

Reverting to 25.2 helped, but boy it cost me one sleepless night, reinstalling Windows, tearing apart the project and piecing it back together...

Yeah this is very annoying. I have 64GB Memory and watching it spike to the max, causing my comptuer to freeze, crash, you name it. Trash update Adobe. Fix the problem!

Updated to 25.5 and it seems to be fixed. I opened a project that I Know was a problem with 25.4. It opened fine in 25.5 and I was able to re-edit portions of it I needed to. So seems good! Glad it got fixed.

Halfway through my next project and 25.5 is doing it again. So I spoke too soon on this being fixed. It isn't quite as bad, I can open a project, walk away for 10 minutes, and when I come back it will either be fine (until the next time I try to open the project) or it will crash outright. About 60/40 on which it will be. resources.PNG

I'm also still getting memory issues on 25.5.

Crashes my whole computer requiring a restart when I'm rendering, exporting, importing, or generating peak files.

Hi @Jimmy Hep @mandicreally - What version of After Effects do you have installed?  Are you using mogrts or captions in your sequence?  Are there any other effects you are using?  What are your computer specs?

Can you send a project to jamiec@adobe.com (no media)

Hello,

this is the xml exported from the Premiere Pro project wich crush with a message:
“Force Quit Applications
Your system has run out of application memory.
To avoid problems with your computer, quit any applications you are not using.”

I tried:
- Change the export configurations.
- Change between hadware/software rendering.
- Reduce effects.
- Use another version or beta version.
- Export by Media Encoder (last version and beta version)

Thanks
